It's "me" again. I probably found a solution to your problem.
I tried to lower the core volume which ended up very quiet, but there was no clipping!
Sadly there is a "hiss" on the analog audio out so at this level its pretty unusable but over toslink lowering the core audio could solve your problem without having the "hiss" on the audio line.
