the cheapest way to get the most out of a hueg
>install modchip
>solder together an xbox 360 component cable with OG plug
>install 2tb HDD and fill it with games
>remove clock cap
if your xbox is unmodded at this point you're an idiot and it will eventually softbrick because of a dead 20 year old HDD. Or it will have corroded traces from leaky caps.

microsoft used shitty caps for the entire board, and that whole era had bad caps in general, see PS3 fats and some slims with the NEC/TOKINS.
1.6 OGs are notorious for bad cpu caps, but in general every xbox will need an entire recapping in the next 5-8 years.
They're all through-hole though it's not difficult to do with some decent tools.

If you have a dead hard drive (these drives are going on 20 years old) without a backed up CPU key you have to install a modchip to even get the thing to boot.
Also swapping out the HDD with only a softmod is a pain in the dick and you have to get a lockable one.
With a modchip you can through any old drive in there with a sata converter, I even experimented with SD cards and they work.
Again, simple through hole soldering of a pin header and 1 single wire to the board.
There's no reason not to do it.

those are just the stock wires the chip came with.
The leads were really fucking long so I had to shorten every single end, I think I forgot to cut the chip side of E.
Regardless, I'm consistently getting first boot and the longest it's taken is 5th boot, which is a miracle on a corona 4G, so I'm not messing with it.
Very happy with how this turned out.
I have 2 more 16mg coronas that will be chipped (for game preservation, RGH/jtag is literally the only way to play games like AB:climax and the AC6 dlc).
Waiting on the jr-programmer for those though.
Mind you this was my first time doing this (RGH) and my first time soldering anything since last year.
Here's one of my openxenium installs on an OG. No, softmods don't cut it.
