There's a thing called difficulty settings. All your favorite wads have them. Play a level on skill 2 with a pistol start. If you liked it, play it again on skill 3, then maybe 4. Or just move on to the next level. Try doing skill-2 pistol-start no-saves runs as a starting point to begin honing your skills
