Pushed a new version with lots of small updates tonight. First of all now the player has a punch and uppercut state. Also I implemented a double tap left or right to run. I cleaned up the HUD in preparation for more data, but feel I need to implement more mechanics before I waste time on something that isn't useful yet. I got tired of looking at the same old background, so I knocked out the walls, slowed down the fish, and added a blue gradient using constant color addition on the background and varied with HDMA (my first use of HDMA, I'm very excited actually).

Next comes adding hurtboxes to the attacks, a hurtbox visualization, and placholder spike and respawn states.

It's hard to program when I'm having fun just running this little asshole around a torus.

That's pretty weird. I'd put it in. If you want to contribute graphics, I need them in the native 4-bit SNES character format. I'd suggest using something like YY-CHR, but that's because that's all I know. Others in this thread have suggested:
>Use GIMP or Photoshop , index the image to 16 or 8 colors.
>Then export as .pcx and use pcx2snes.

Also you can have animated palette effects or swap out a modest amount of tiles on the file to achieve animation if you want. It would make things come alive.

Nope, just a faggot who can read a manual.
