>An alright shmup and apparently not one of the more well-remembered ones on NES. A bit on the easy side though.

Go play its superiour sequel, Fire Shark, on the Sega Chad Drive.

It's not revisionism, it was a selling point even back then. Did you forget Blast Processing?

Yes.
Source: Its the only console from it's generation that had Doom3 and HL2 ports.

>only barely managed to hold their own against Nintendo in the west?
They went from almost zero market share in NA to 50%. That's hardly barely "holding their own".

Great CPU became affordable (when it was new, Motorola only wanted to sell the 68000 for Unix workstations)
CPU also allows large address space without fucking with mappers
Enough RAM to do decent stuff was affordable
Make third-generation TMS-9918 architecture (different from what MSX was doing, designed for planes and sprites and scrolling) and give it the maximum RAM for its design
Add a DMA unit to the VDP
Cheap but decent version of a Yamaha FM synth chip
Take the entire previous generation system, wire it up for backwards compatibility, and let it be the sound CPU

And it's easy to program, too. At least it was until they added the CD unit.

>>8021072
It only added the capability for true Virtual Machine support (not useful in a console), and a little optimization for the DBxx instruction. They would have done better to use a 10MHz 68000 for 25% speed increase.

Mega Drive > Genesis

Genesis is still a badass name tho. To answer your question I do use both names but definitely call it Genesis 80% of the time.

Why does this make you so upset?
Just accept the MegaDrive/Genesis superiority already.

The NES is most definitely better than the SNES although that obviously wouldn't take much :^)

This post should be stickied. How will SNES Nintoddlers ever recover?
