Unironically Sonia.
I also love the two honorary Belmonts in pic related.

C64/LoD is one of my favorite games of all time. While I like LoD's additions and improvements, something special was lost when they cut the voice acting and a few of the secrets (ie: Carrie and Reinhardt's secret throw back costumes and the invisible bridge) out. I keep the OST on my phone as I have for years and enjoy listening to it while cleaning, walking, driving, or studying. I hate how much hate these games get.

>It's the only game besides the NES ones that capture the Casltevania feel and theme and doesn't resort to being anime shit.
You hit the nail on the head.

It's one of my top 5 games of all time. I couldn't get enough of it as a kid, and I replay it every couple of years yet out of pure fun. I love the atmosphere, the music, the characters, the story, and even the game play. Perfect? No. Frustrating in spots? Highly. But it's still a great game and I do not get the hate it gets outside of hating it just being the trendy thing to do.

C64 has been and remains in my top 3 favorite games of all time. I played it for the first time 20 years ago as an 11 year old and I'm still infatuated with it. I found it to have an engrossing atmosphere, an interesting story line, loveable characters, and game play that was both challenging and fun. Frustrating at times and absolutely imperfect, but I came back to it again and again. The OST is also top notch, in my opinion.
I understand why it its new-to-the-Castlevaina-universe game play was a difficult transition for some fans back in 1999, but I think C64>>>stuff like Curse of Darkness by a great degree. SotN is highly enjoyable, and it's ok for a series to deviate from its formula for the sake of trying to deliver something good in the form of something new.
The look of that game still captivates me. I played through Echo Night 2 for the first time ever a couple summers ago and its look reminded me of CV64. Those two are a pair of the comfiest games I've ever played. Throw Clock Tower into the mix and you've got a solid selection of my favorite games of all time.
But I don't think it's just nostalgia. C64 holds up for me when I play through it every couple years.

I'm not trolling. It's in my top 3 favorite games of all time. And it's not nostalgia talking, I replay it every couple years and still get a lot of joy out of it. The music is top notch, the style and graphics are a perfect compliment to the setting and story, and the characters are memorable.

I know a lot of people hated this game because it was a non-traditional CastleVania, but I honestly believe that had it not been a CastleVania game or had people been able to get over the fact that it tried something new, it would have been better embraced by the gaming community.

Try it yourself, without any preconceived expectations, and decide if you like it for what it is. Also consider that there's an "expanded" version (Legacy of Darkness) that loses the fun voice acting but offers two more characters and an expanded environment to explore.

Also, if you enjoy the graphics and mood, check out the Echo Night games on Playstation.

I truly hope you enjoy the game, Anon.

C64/LOD is unironically in my top 3 favorite games. I loved the look, the atmosphere, the characters, the soundtrack, the story, and the game play. I play through LOD once every couple years or so and I enjoy it. To this day I can't understand why it gets shit on so hard.

The only reason I can come up with is that it's a CV game that doesn't adhere to the CV side scroller tradition, but the newer games don't either and people seem to like them.
