Having played all the ones released in the west, I would say Dragon Quest VIII. Though if the remake of Dragon Quest VII on 3DS is as good as it sounds, that may overtake it.

>Best Protag?
Probably the hero from DQV just because he had such a hard life but kept going. Though from a story standpoint, I prefer the way they handled the hero in DQVIII. Making him effectively a tag along until the post game, where we learn there was a purpose to him being on the team. Its kind of the best of both types.

>Best Waifu?
Bianca since I played a version without the hick accent.

>Best Boss?
My favorite is probably fighting the multiple guys in the Arena with Alena.

>Best recruitable monster in V and VI?
In terms of strength and versatility, Great Dragon or King Cureslime. But you only get slimes in DQVI so in that game, its Slime Knight, since he can do both the slimopolous and costume contest.
