Why is Final Fantasy 6 always seen as the best Final Fantasy game?

FF6. Decided to complete all mainline, non-MMO FF games before the year is out, and I'm around 45% there now.

FF6 has been a MUCH better game than 5 but still confuses me as to why it's still so different to 4. I guess going from PSP to GBA probably means something, as well as experimentation, being a thing, but things like auto-battles, bulk sale discounts and the battle music I miss dearly. I also miss Namingway, didn't want to name my characters this time around but they're just so many I feel like it would've been a grand adventure to name them after friends.

Although, it's brought a fair share of great ideas. Relics are a cool addition, even though I'm assuming they're OP late game (although Sprint shoes are annoying) and espers are a fun way to give people magic and I prefer this to the jobs people had in 5. Mode 7 for Chocobo's was weird at first but I got used to it, it's also very generous in telling you where to go.

Any spoiler free tips for someone playing this for the first time? I've played up to the Reclaimers Hideout

I mostly play WRPGs and FPS, but I've been attempting to get into JRPGs, I currently only have FF6, 7, 8 and Vagrant Story so any reccomendations would also be appreciated.

How is the FF VI version on the PS1? Did it also get a overwork like the advance version where they lowered the 'violence' and changed parts of the story?

There any reason to buy a PS1 or should I just get a PS2 Slim for old games?

Yeah the PS2 came out in 2000 but my interest is in FF VI so go screw yourself you nitpicker
