VLC. You'll need to set up it up by going to Tools > Preferences > All Settings (bottom left corner) > Searchbar > Type FluidSynth.
As for live playback, VirtualMIDISynth on Windows. Supposedly Timidity++ can be used as a soundcard emulator on Linux, but I've never been able to do so (can't remember why).
