Not in the Famicom and Super Famicom versions
but in the Game Boy Color version changing classes
is necessary due to a super hidden hard boss called Divine
Dragon which can give you the Rubyss Sword (the most powerful weapon in the game), beating the boss even requires you to drop the main hero in favor of a better warrior mostly because the hero
can not change classes. Divine Dragon is like pic related but golden.
