>dont need to buy a proprietary memory card to hack the thing unlike on the OLED model
You can get around this somewhat. I have an app folder setup with vitashell, autoplugin etc backed up so I never need an official card to setup an sdcard.
After the initial hack you can replace near or any other system application with vitashell, meaning you can have vitashell without any sdcard in their at all. storagemgr and kernel plugins get installed to system memory too, so after that initial setup your vita can always take an sdcard without needing an official one beyond installing enso.
The extra 20 bucks you need to play for an 8gig is worth the better build quality to me, especially the analog sticks.
my main vita is a launch one that I don't treat nicely at all and the sticks are still perfectly fine, whereas the slim/2000 is almost PSP and switch tier in terms of drifting.
It's an easy fix but still annoying when you consider the longevity of the console. Same with the flimsy micro usb port.

>impossible to do so with a Vita.
Yeah thats a damn shame, I hope the battery lockout can eventually be fixed with cfw. As of now though chink batteries work fine, even if they aren't at 100% capacity since they're old as fuck.

If you want battery life, what I did when I went on a road trip for residency interviews is I velcro'd a battery bank to the back of my vita's shell case and used a short usb cable to connect them.
I played all of MGS1 and 2 (around 20 hours), crash 2 (maybe 4 hours), Sly 1 (3 hours since I didn't 100%) and ninja gaiden sigma 1 (15 hours) and it wasn't even at 50%.
That would work for any console that takes 5V, so 3DS and switch included.
