it's easily the hardest part of the game for me.

1) learn the map so you don't fall into the wrong holes
2) clear the game in at least 2 sweeps: get a few chests on the first sweep, warp out, save, get the remaining chests and the exit on the next phase
3) More than one Dark Wizard spawns? RUN THE FUCK WAY

so it takes proper planning and luck. If Dark Wizards ambushes you, you're fucked anyway

Good one. Whether or not you stumble on Dark Wizards and whether or not a single one decides to OHKO your entire party before you even get a turn entirely depends on luck.

I always do this dungeon in two sweeps because of it, trying to grab all the treasures and clear the dungeon in one go is just too risky.

There are two enemies in the final area that can use OHKO spells.

One of them is a spell that doesn't hit every time, and you should prioritize killing those enemies when you see them.
As for Bazuzus, the spell does kill everyone, but they only use the spell when they have iirc 25% HP left and even then it's still only a 1/4 chance of them using the spell, which in most cases leaves ample time to finish them off.

That and the final area is pretty short and you respawn in the middle of it.

Pic related is much much worse than anything DQ2 throwed at the player, and nobody ever complains about those

How about Dark Wizards in FF1's ice cave

>a single one of them can wipe out your entire team in one turn
>they often spawn in group so even if you manage to kill one or two before they get a turn, you won't get them all
>no amount of sane grinding can save you
>no equipment to save you either
>or any real tactic to counter the attack or diminish its power

I always do the ice cave in 2 or 3 passes (get a bunch of chests, exit, save, go back in) just because of them as it's way too risky to try and do the entire cave in one run

If you're not too retarded with ressource management, the only real challenge are the Dark Wizard in the cavern of ice.

Also it's not as much a challenge as it is pure luck whether you're going to run into many of them and whether they're OHKO you or not
