Game Tengoku is an awesome game, you can even get a faithful remake on Steam or modern consoles. It's a shooter taking place inside a Japanese arcade and stages are all based on various vidya genres, full of references to game history. The vibe is similar to Parodius. The picture is from a bonus stage exclusive to Saturn and modern ports. A girl is dancing and singing at karaoke and you have to shoot down words she sings.

Also, the Saturn port has the cutest main menu ever. You are at a game center reception and an animated assistant girl comments on all buttons and options.

That's SlitherSquares, a square-focused spinoff of the genre-defining things-falling-into-a-well game WildSnake
It's actually really good but the fact that the snakes all just look like clumps of square tiles really turned off a lot of fans of the main series so it never took off
