Post retro games that you loved to get lost in, and could play for hours, make almost no progress, just wander around, and not even know what happened.

>> No.3170469

You posted it. Shout outs to Wet Dry World. I used to play on that level just to dick around as if it was a playground.

I also fired up Bob-Omb Battlefield just to surf around on a turtle shell. Almost a proto Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, if you will.

>> No.3170492

Hey that's every game ever made if you play it shitfaced drunk.

Banjo&Kazooie

It took me years to actually finish it as i was just doing the same worlds over and over again.
+ the cimetery level freaked me out so i couldn't play it until i was old enough to not shit in my pants.

When I was a kid it was Earthbound. I would wander around Ness' house and pretend I was really there.

Or high.

Doom is surprisingly fun to play while high. One time I got some really good indica, and loaded up Requiem.wad with -nomonsters, and spent a good half hour just wandering around.

IMO It's not even a Zelda clone, it also has platforming elements but I guess I know what you mean.

MNsG was also an early 3D adventure game, it came out before both Megaman Legends and Ocarina of Time.

Mega Man game
odd camera controls
You collect various items, and when you've got the right combination, Roll makes you a new weapon or piece of equipment. Eventually you'll find parts to make yourself better jumping boots, or skates that make you slide faster than you can run, or helmets that reduce damage.
You upgrade your weapons you've created with money to make them better.
There are parts you equip to your buster cannon to make it better in different ways, like higher damage, higher rate of fire, further distance.

it's fun to just fuck around in the city

This goddamned game is so fun to explore. Even the hub world had me enticed for hours at a time. The items only added to the experimenting.

If only I knew about the IJ glitch back then.

I don't get it, when I'm high I feel all soft and warm and want to play something cute or wacky. Metal music also doesn't fit my high mood, I need something more electronic or weirder.

Now cocaine/meth and Doom/metal, that's another story.

Agreed.. My favorite is to play NES, SNES, Genesis or other 4th gen type stuff when I'm high. Doom is too intense for that

Pretty much all of them. As a kid, I spent more time goofing around and testing the limits of a game than I did actually playing them. I was far more appreciative of things back then. Probably because I didn't have unlimited income for games back then, so I had to squeeze every bit of enjoyment out of what I had.

Pretty much every Zelda and Mario game. I loved messing around in Harvest Moon, hoping to find some weird event or secret that I could trigger. I used to spend hours in Kirby Super Star trying to figure out what abilities I would get from mixing, or what kind of effects certain abilities had on different enemies and bosses.

I think the best thing I ever discovered in a game was the secret "Manta" Shield in Earthworm Jim 2

Anyway, Goemon Games are their own thing. They're action adventure games, you could probably argue they took elements from many games but ultimately they have their own personality and trademark nuances to them.

1 goddamn hub area leading to a few places that wall off other places until you reach them in the game isn't "open world".
