Its feel is off, something about the timing, its palette is more kiddie, its bosses aren't as imaginative, and its music sucks. Rush and the slide are cool, though, and I appreciate the pot plant grow complete with "cats."

It's obviously unfinished. The game is plagued with slowdown and graphical bugs and the WIly levels feel really ameturish. By no means a bad game but I feel people overrate it a bit, I would say 2, 4, and 6 are definitely better and even 1 could be argued as better I feel.

It gave us Protoman though so it will always be good because of that.

Play this, gets rids of most if not all slowdows, fixes most glitches

>> No.6350010

It’s my favorite of the classic series. Occasional slowdown in the megaman games never bugged me cause it gave me time to react to all the dense stuff on screen, and its cool to feel like youre moving in slowmo while exciting shit happens.

Love the slide, and really dislike the charge shot later games added so this is the only game where I get one but not the other. I also love the sense of scope this game has, I never got why people dislike the docrobots. I thought it was fucking cool and really felt like it was hitting a new scale. One the rest of the classic series never managed to match again.

I think a lot of people who hate it are just 2 babies who cant get gud without relying on metal blade all the time.

The docbots and their stages have bad game design and that's objective

>poor checkpoint placement that fucks with the checkpoint expectations that is otherwise correct in the rest of the series
>huge ass hitboxes for the extra fuck you trying to jump over them
>some of them have attacks that depending on how lucky you get, are literally unavoidable

I genuinely believe that if the game wasn't released in beta state, they would have made the docbots smaller, fixed the checkpoints, and fixed some of their attacks pattern, which for the most part, feel like programmers first attempts rather than being as tightly crafted as the real robot masters in the game and the previous games

The Items are well implemented and serve as a good precursor to Rush, we have eight RM for the first time, the levels are memorable and mostly well designed, one of the best difficulty curve in the series along with 4, not as unfair as 1 or 3 with the Doc Robots (which I love but yeah I have to admit they're a bit too much to handle) but not as easy as 5 or 6 ,the music is also god tier...

Worst things I can think about it are the boss of Wily Fortress 4 being bullshit and the weapons becoming redundant as soon as you have the Metal Blade, which you can ignore of course, but making you do that it's indeed a flaw.

My problem with 2's levels is that they're a bit one-note. Everyone remembers the lasers in Quickman's or the blocks in Heatman's, but there's not much more to the stage other than those short sections. It's not bad but it ends up feeling barebones. Later games tend to make the stages feel more varied and fleshed out. Take Magnetman's stage for example, it has a section with disappearing blocks, but it's just part of the stage, not the entirety of it.

in 3 there is at least one spot where if you don't have rush ammo left, you can't even kill yourself and all you can do is reset the game

it's unlikely to happen, but it's possible.

>>6352591
The wall bomb boss in MM2 really should have small enemies that spawn once in a while.

Like for every 3 times the wall shoots at you, 1 time it'll spawn a small flying enemy instead.

And those enemies could potentially drop ammo when killed. But, they're also here to mess with your timing and jumps if you don't dispose of them.

That's how it should have been. You keep the "puzzle" aspect of it because if you want to do it asap without getting hit you'll want to go for the shortest route; but if you fuck up you have a potential way out, though a risky one that may take forever but still a possibility.

Kinda like how the soccer boss at the end of wily fortress 1 in MM8 has those crates that can spawn ammo so you can't get stuck; but while retaining the more "hardcore" 1990 design.

After fighting the first Doc Robot the gate leads to an area that is too low to allow Mega Man to jump without Rush (either in the form of Rush Jet or Rush Coil). Thus if one beats the Doc Robot without any weapon energy in either of these Rush attachments one will be stuck and forced to reset the game.

You've put enough thought into it that I hope you or someone else with the know-how can finally make a fix for what is obviously a mistake.
Another thing that's broken:
If you fuck up and run out of Bubble Lead at the final boss, you're fucked, even if you have extra lives and E-tanks; at that point you have to die to continue to get that one weapon's ammo back, when that boss's room really ought to have had a way to spawn some for you, even if it's tricky.

The possible ammo drops should be on the way to the boss imo, with at least one enemy in the corridor leading to the boss, like in MM4 before Wily; but I'm afraid it'd kinda destroy the atmosphere in that music-less corridor in MM2.

I've done hacks before btw, I'd be able to make that idea I mentionned for the boobeam trap. I'm just not sure I'd want to take the time or that a lone hack that only fixes one boss is worth the trouble.

I think I'm the only person in the universe who prefers playing as Mega Man in this game.
Bass is nice and all, but he just wants to make me play an X game instead.

You're not alone. I'm fine with not getting a dash or a double jump, and on top of that I get to kill the bosses faster.

>It gave us Protoman though so it will always be good because of that.

Honestly I think I could have done without. I don't really dislike him or anything, but I was never a fan of the "Mysterious rival" type characters. I'll definitely take Blues over that Zero faggotry anyways.

Protoman started getting really good in 9 when you can finally play as him and they turned his shield into a great smart mechanic.

Honestly I love the shield, design wuse it's the same mentality of the slide: it's one move but it's a defensive AND offensive move at the same time.
