Buy in bulk and sell what you don’t want or doubles you have, you will be surprised how much you can get back, even profit sometimes, I’ll drop Up to 1500 sometimes on various eBay collections or Craigslist pickups, and I get a lot of value out of it, don’t buy individually, you will get ripped off, buy in BULK, it’s the only way now to always get a good deal

Cmon anon, I’m being serious, don’t buy junk, if you know what you are looking for then you won’t buy collections or bundles with sport titles, I stay away from eBay auctions That look too professional/have more then a handful of sport titles weaseled in with a copy of smb3

You should be looking for Craigslist hauls, or large eBay auctions from sellers wanting to get rid of their collections , obviously stay away from the resellers that are selling 20 copies of madden 99 with the title “huge video game lot 50+ games”

Some people are more serious about this hobby then others, explaining the pleasure of owning and playing original games on original hardware is something that few would understand , it’s like owning a piece of the past, physical history held in your hands, Emulators and flash carts are great for casual players and nostalgia trippers, but collecting real hardware is just so awesome, you have the systems, but not the game’s, it’s not the authentic experience which completely ruins it, half the fun is searching and collecting, cleaning, displaying, trading, it’s just such a cool hobby.

I gave up collecting and sold like eleven thousand dollars worth of my stuff after I had to move three times. It's just not worth the hassle of the physical space it occupies. I like the idea of it, like when I see cool battlestation pics, but in practice it's something I don't want to deal with.

I don't colelct games anymore for the sake of collecting, but I try to buy all of my favorite games as "thropies" if that makes any sense. I see no point in collecting games that I don't have any connection to, but I'd gladly have some of my favorite games on display on top of my bookshelf. Currently there's bunch of old MsDOS big boxes that I never had when growing up but played all the time. I've been messing around with flash carts. I'm far too late to this bandwagon.

The vast majority of games are absolute shit. Any given console you can write off 75% of the games as not worth anyone's time and how many of the remaining 25% you enjoy is down to individual taste. I dont know what compels somebody to own hundreds of games.

I'm a little different, sure I have my childhood faves but the SNES for example has so many gems that I missed as a child like Chrono, Lufia, Breath of Fire, etc.

There are an enormous amount of obscure great games that never got a port which are now my "adult faves" in my physical collection that I like more than my childhood ones. At the time I had no idea that they existed.

If the reason the deepness is a problem is just that the items on the shelf get pushed back away from the front of the shelf (leasing to an uneven look), you can solve that by putting light-weight blocks of some sort (light wood or whatever) behind the items on the shelf to prevent them from being pushed back

Yea it's incredibly few because the conditions for disc rot are so extreme that if you're collecting games in such a place you should consider keeping your game room well ventilated like a reasonable person would anyhow. I've also heard of label guards for CDs which would in theory stop scratches on the label from destroying the data which I imagine would assist in preventing rot as well. And if you're that fucking cheap, you can apply packing tape to the printed label side instead, I don't see why it wouldn't work so long as it's applied cleanly.

"My perfectly sorted ROM/ISO set allows me to choose from thousands of games which I have never played and know nothing about."

I started collecting after my brother mentioned on his birthday that he really wished he grabbed Body Harvest for N64, but he's got a house and family now, so he can't throw around money like he could when he was single. He has a pretty great SNES collection, and I'm jealous of the games he managed to grab before the exploded in price.

I made an ebay account and bought him the game, and it just kind of snowballed from there. He gave me a few games from his collection to start mine (Link to the Past, March of the Black Queen) and I'm up to 68 carts across SNES and N64.

I'm only looking to grab games we played as kids, and some that we wished we could have bought (I picked up Ninja Warriors recently, which was a holy grail for us as kids). I'm not looking forward to having to shell out the cash for the really big games though (Pocky and Rocky 1/2, Wild Guns etc ).

False. I do own boxed copies and bought plastic sleeves for them. The problem with boxes is that they get wet, worn out and torn. With a custom case, that eliminates all those problems. Also poorfags tend to pay more for what they can't afford. While people who make money, tend to find many ways to save money. Hence why the richest people tend to dress thrifty, while the poorest people tend to dress stylish to make it appear as if they had money. My autistic friend with SSI checks does this all the time.

I don't rent, I own my own house, unlike you. It's obvious to me you've never accidentally left a cardboard box on a kitchen table with a wet spot on it. Since cold drinks tend to leave what is called "condensation" on any surface it touches. Hence why coasters were invented. Which is exactly why I bought plastic sleeves for my boxed copies.

Ive been collecting things all my life, as a kid I used to beg my parens for sets of figurines only made to make you collect all of them to complete a set, I used to even eat and drink certain products for months just because collecting them earned you a prize. I collected movies and music CDs, trading cards, magazines, flippos, you name it.

As I fell into gaming it sort of came naturally for me to collect for it as well, but I never got serious enough with the hobby, and only managed to get a decent SNES and Mega Drive collection that I shamefully never touched. It was about collecting, never about playing them. A decade later I suddenly started getting serious and now I'm collecting to play, the hobby sticks because of that, and that's why I keep collecting.

People always complain about this hobby, that they're being robbed, that scalpers are scum, that too many people are looking for games nowadays, but for me the hobby is much more thrilling now that games actually sell for the actual value of the product, and I feel far more inclined to collect.

The community is also amazing, there's a few assholes that will try and sell you crap, you'll figure that out once you start buying from the same few names over and over again and figure out who to buy from and who to avoid, but once you find your footing you'll meet some great people and forget about the rest.
