Very long easy Sega Rally thread. Maybe.

Which shit? The co-driver?

>> No.6420271

What's with the co-driver saying "baby"?

What the fuck does that mean? "Very long easy right, baby!"

I can get to Lakeside with my eyes closed but I've never beaten it.

Is it even possible? There is like no traction at all and you just pinball it till you lose. Protips?

I like the first one (handling and physics) way better than the model 3 sequel. Also best racing game on Sega Saturn.

Sega Rally 2 is flawed, but I still really like it. Problem is, there isn't a great way to play it these days. The Dreamcast port is gimped with shitty framerate and muddy visuals. Emulating the arcade game is glitchy, at least for me. And the Windows version is ancient and has no support for analog game pads.

Stay in 2nd/3rd gear for all of the track except the straights.

The key to finish lakeside, is to do extremely well in forrest. That way you will have enough time for lakeside. Also mannual transmission, 2, 3rd gear mostly, and 4th briefly when you can get away with it. Furthermore you can practice lakeside via holding down break, select practice, highlight mountain, then 1st gear, 2nd gear. third gear, N gear, 3rd gear, and gas to enter.

>> No.6420410

only one i actually owned was sega rally championship on gba
had some nice chunky 3d
don't worry, it has full co-driver commentary

I wanted a Saturn just to play Sega Rally. The 90s were weird /vr/os

Then I met V-Rally and Collin McRae on PSX and forgot all about it

>> No.6420623

>>6420527
I feel like those games occupy a different a different space than Sega Rally. Sega Rally is an arcade game. You play it for 5 minutes. Then you play it again and try to do better. V-Rally and McRae certainly aren't simulations, but they're a little bit more realistic and expect you to play them for hours.

Sega Rally 2 had better music.

it is, it's just that it had a lot of 2d "billboards"
maybe you skipped to a rather flat stage, some have hills on the sides, definately not a simple raster/mode7 effect

>> No.6421503

>>6421405
It uses techniques that are somewhat similar to how 2.5D FPS renderers do things, in combination with animated sprites and few other tricks, no actual polygons involved.

>> No.6421532

>>6421503
i looked a bit close to see if it was doing some trickery like what build does, but it doesn't appear to, since i can see;
- affine texture distortion
- ability to look up/down without distortion (check out the credits, the cars drive right under the camera)
granted, it's super low resolution, and it's hard to tell exactly what's going on, but it does seems to use polygons

do you have a source describing what it's doing? because if it's something i haven't seen before, i am curious

the ghost car replay music on Saturn:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qQY9l8jDEE&list=PL8E5516B88B57BBA8&index=4

This isn't just the best single videogame track ever created, it's the best MUSICAL track of all time. This track should be engraved on a gold plate and blasted into space on the next satellite to leave the solar system, as an eternal monument to the creative genius of mankind

Playstation 2 is a native arcade port or emulation I believe, but you're probably better off with the Model 2 emulator on PC I would assume.

Did anyone else grow up in a world where being even slightly good at Sega Rally meant you fucked everyone who actually knew how to drive a car in any Sega racing game?

Those physics were off the wall.

What’s your opinion on Sega Touring Car?
I had a Saturn (with Sega Rally) but didnt get a chance to play STC

>> No.6425794

>>6425467
Sure, if you play it with increased render resolution and a widescreen hack. Just render it at native resolution and aspect ratio. The Saturn port is great, don't get me wrong, but the arcade original is still better.

>> No.6425805

>>6425487
The arcade game is okay. The sense of speed is incredible, but it's pretty damn hard, and the AI is crazy fast. The Saturn port is nigh unplayable. The game is way too fucking fast, and the low resolution just results in your screen being an incomprehensible mess of pixels.

Manx TT Super Bike is the one I'd recommend. The Saturn port is arguably better than the arcade game, and it's damn fun.

it won't look better if you mush it into a 360p 4:3 box then stretched to letterboxed 1440p screen
