I like bard's tale system. There's a distance system, and spells have range too.

but fallout system gives you actions "points", it allows you to cramp actions into the points... let's say fallout system mixed with ogre/tactics console system

Epic Battle Fantasy is actually the best non-J JRPG out there but plebs don't know about it

>> No.6523958

Bard's Tale reused the same graphics for different tiers of enemies. Not uncommon back then but even in that era there were pallet swaps.

Personally this. But I find when you add timing elements to the gain it becomes the worse of both action and turn based with little benefits of both.

FFX has a more purposeful turn-based system than any other entry in the mainline FF series. Also, the World Trade Center was still standing when it was released, so I don't want to hear that it isn't /vr/.

So, nothing like Fallout's system then. Bad example if you just wanted to say standard tactical turn based combat.

Might be a stretch to call them RPG's but X-Com and Jagged Alliance.

>> No.6524514

no cos fallout allows you to manage your points: spend movement, spend action, spend movement, act if points are left, etc. I say it's ok to manage your movement points but you should only be allowed to act once, and that action shouldn't end your turn if you still have movement points left and want to spend them. what breaks fallout system is that you can cramp an insane amount of movement and actions in one turn just relying on a build... a high intiative is already a game changer so you shouldn't be allowed to throw a grenade, get a few shots before a single reaction from the ai, at least not with an insane amout of buffs/drugs. then again fallout is a 1vs the world scenario so maybe the game would become unplayable kek. maybe in an ogre/fftactics kinda game then, cos iirc in those games your action ends your turn if you take the action after moving 1 square, even if you could move many more.

I definitely wouldn't say most of the ff games, even if I personally enjoyed FF3's remake on the DS.

What sprang to mind for me for Suikoden; simple, elegant, with lots of customizing party members and special attacks to be learned. Plus a radically good EXP distribution system meant that having dozens of characters keep up with one another's levels was easy and painless.
