Anyone else feel a little sad that this line of classic preservation has come to a close?

>> No.6926668

I only have 1 sega ages release, the panzer dragoon PS2 one, and it's disappointing.
Also have Nights on PS2, which was supposed to be sega ages, but ended up being full-price release, so no "sega ages" name in it.
Both are disappointing releases, and most of the programmers are chinese, not japanese, which may explain the lack of quality and polish.

I wonder if that differs from the recent releases that have been released on switch? Those were all brought in with new menu features (difficulty settings, graphics filters, etc) and ran smooth as a arcade/emu port could get. Yes it doesn't have ground breaking features but they seem faithful enough while adding tweaks albeit barebones but nice that they showed some effort.

I know some Sega Ages were done by M2 in Japan, in which case I assume those are good.

>> No.6926684

The only line of classic preservation you need is Retroarch, so no, I didn't feel a little sad.

I don't mind shelling out a little money every now and then to show a company that we interest in these types of releases at reasonable prices if they handle them well.

I want SEGA to make more games than yakuza

You're in luck, as retroarch has less input lag than the real hardware.

is blade better than the standard shot or is it even worth using?

Also what is the appropriate level order to tackle the game if you're a beginner?

It's sad that they haven't open sourced the native ports (for the sake of maximum preservation) and that the collection it's exclusive to Nintendo Switch. They could sell well on Steam and GOG (formerly Good Old Games).

I am glad emulation efforts have allowed us to enjoy the games in some capacity. They are constantly improving and working on reducing input lag. There's still a lot to do, but I am glad I can enjoy the community's work.

PS2 Sega Ages are different from the M2 ones on 3DS/Switch, which are great

>>6926684
I don't NEED Space Harrier with independent volume sliders for music, shots, and other sound effects, but I want it and thanks to Sega Ages I have it

pretty much any time M2 takes on something, I'd rather play their version over emulating the original. enjoy SEGA however you want though. they are great games!

yeah I'm deflated

supposedly they sold like shit especially in Japan. they made some really weird choices of games to do and skipped a lot of the big Sega cash cows for some reason.

>>6926692
yeah same kinda. Sega made some great arcade games, idgaf about Sanic honestly.

>> No.6931261

People aren't willing to pay $60 for one ancient simple arcade game that you can beat in 10 minutes and see everything it has to offer. They should just lump as many games as they can onto one disc instead of selling one for full price, that's why they didn't sell. They could easily fit their entire arcade library on a single disc or digital release, people would be willing to pay then.

>$60 for one ancient simple arcade game

literally what are you going on about? they were at max $7 and they were digital releases with new features and as close to arcade original as possible

Sega Ages PS2 =! Switch Sega Ages
>>6926679
>I wonder if that differs from the recent releases that have been released on switch? Those were all brought in with new menu features (difficulty settings, graphics filters, etc) and ran smooth as a arcade/emu port could get.
That only covers the later third of Sega Ages games that were done by M2 (i.e. Monster World, Phantasy Star, etc). PS2 Sega Ages was originally those ugly 3D conversions (plus the full remakes of Phantasy Star and 2) that were brought overseas as Sega Classics Collection. Then in the middle you have the volumes that were almost straight ports (Virtua Fighter 2, Panzer Dragoon, etc.) and were pretty mediocre.
>>6931261
Pretty sure these weren't $60, dumbass. Not to mention they had a ton of extra features and weren't limited to arcade games. If they limited them to a big bundle they wouldn't have had time to implement all the extras.

Honestly I'm disappointed that we didn't get dreamcast sega ages. Guess it's time to just dust off the old dreamcast

>> No.6931304

>>6931295
They probably assumed no one wanted a Sega Ages for Dreamcast since they just finished it for the Saturn. I just wish they didn't fuck up the Smash Pack, it seemed like the right time to celebrate the Genesis after 10 years, but they had rush it out.
