Last thread was awesome. Let's resume there.

Currently playing through the Devil Force series by Compile. Not the greatest trpg ever, but still a pretty fun game with a comfy soundtrack.

What are you playing on your kyuujuuhachi emulator or your expensive real hardware, /vr/os ?

Pic related. Classic PC-98 Ayumi puts modern one to shame.

As for H-games, Foxy/Shangrlia series (second instalments of both series are a massive imrpovment over the first games), Lakers and Magical Jam are cool too.

These characters are just pixels on screen, you can use something like Capture2Text to process them. People have been using tools like AGTH and ITH for a decade and a half, back when no one would dream of having good translations or even official releases:
https://www.deviantart.com/avalonmelody/journal/Reading-Visual-Novels-Using-AGTH-TA-ATLAS-ITH-496372829
http://retropc98.narod,ru/soft/agth.htm

Searching for text directly in emulator's memory might not work well, and a platform-specific hook might be needed. OCR should work.

So there was a colleague at my job, the type who is used to open websites by typing their name into search bar. A great fellow, though. One day I noticed that he was really busy installing and configuring some stuff, and got intrigued. It turned out that he really wanted to play some Japanese VN that didn't have a translation because he had got hooked onto the characters by some other media, so he found the guides, the programs, and then we both got it running. So, never underestimate others' determination.

One of the few eroge of its time to have a competent English translation. Very innovative, especially considering visual novels rarely stray from their common formula. God tier soundtrack by Ryu Umemoto, I'd go as far as to say there's no other soundtrack that can match it. Good production value as well, some of the CGs are stellar. You can do a screen door transparency by only drawing a portion of the window in a dithered pattern. I suppose if you were really smart with your palette, you could also have a certain amount of "blending", but that would require a lot more effort. It does have a framebuffer, so you can do whatever you want within the 16 color palette and resolution restrictions.

Well, it's a bit too late to jump on these, since they are dying more from month to month and getting flooding with trashfiles more than before. Many Japanese switched over to Torrent and get their stuff from Nyaa, and it looks like they are now rarely uploading something themself.
Otherwise Winny, Share and Perfect Dark are the way to go. With Perfect Dark the newest / last iteration of Japanese P2P and maybe the way to go.
Anyway i almost got anything J-PC related, and am still monitoring for new files and cleaning up all those stuff (which takes long, since many Archive-Files are either sometimes esoteric like "GCA" and many ZIP are SHIFT-JIS, so i have to unpack them manually over CLI to have proper Filenames ect.., and still many Dupes) on my PC and will upload everything to Archive.org at some point in the future.

If you search something specific i can also take a quick look in my files if there is something.

Try Out Breakers and Last Breakers. They're not as good in my book but they're still pretty nice considering the system they run on.
Raid Wind in nice, if you played the Alltynex series it's some kind of prequel.

As for doujin platformers, Miko-san fight by Mushroom is cool. Just a little help on how to play : you can collect colored hanafuda, and each hanafuda type can eliminate a specific monster. But you can only use the last picked hanafuda, so if you want to use another one you picked earlier, you must destroy the associated monster first. So there's a little puzzle-strategy involved. Great art and animation, really a charming little game.

That's a hard one to debate. Both are drawn in differing styles, and Natsune's head is larger overall than Shoulderpads. Shoulderpads seems very large in these shots, but there's other ones where she looks smaller. Conversely, Natsune tends to stay the same size (with one outfit exception) even undressed. I'm no good at calculating this kind of thing.

Pretty high quality games started up on PC-98 and then got ported later on PC and other consoles:
>Policenauts (Kojima's cyberpunk detective game)
>YU-NO (one of the best VN's even today, you still could find PC release with original graphics)
>Words Worth (evil overlord simulator with hentai and that one horseman)
>True Love 95 (gorgeous dating simulator/VN mishmash)
>Rance 1-4 (HRPG series with unnecessary good worldbuilding and plot)
For the horror games on this platform the most notable are Dead of the Brain 1-2 (zombie survival horror games before Resident Evil made them cool), Marine Philt (survival horror during alien invasion) and Necronomicon (Cthulhu mythos).
>Translations
If they have been ported then you could find translations. If they stayed solely on PC-98, well, no, in majority of cases. >>7402330

WW is an extremely simplistic dungeon crawler. You only get one character and can't use magic so it's just a matter of bashing. The remake added at least some depth with ranged weapons and going for action instead of turn base but even then it's extremely simple.
The remake also cut out all but 2 of the H-scenes because it was originally meant for the Saturn. This causes a bit of a plothole since most of the girls you meet in the second half are actually your daughters.
Overall the only good thing about the game is the plot. If the anime hadn't fucked that one up it would be the best to experience it that way.

>>7453591
I think the original WW had some of elf's worst character art of the era. The monster design on the other hand is far better in the original.

WW (1993) was released a year after Doukyuusei (1992).
Doukyuusei art is much better, based Takei Masaki.
Even Dragon Knight (pic) series which started in 1989 looks better than WW.
