Yes I ordered a rg351mp and I going insane waiting for this shit to arrive.
Ordered like 10days ago and it didn't leave chinland yet arghhhhh.

>What handhelds are you looking forward to in 2022?
None, the new Anbernic isn't that much stronger and has active cooling, kinda shit desu.
Waiting for a device that does N64, DC well and maybe some GC too.

>What are you playing on your handhelds?
Mostly casual games to relax on the couch like Harvest Moon etc.
Also wanted to try the other Digimon World games, only played 1.

I'm the Anonfag that was eagerly awaiting his Retroflag GPi. Grabbing stuff left and right to toss on it, pretty hyped that I get to experience the NES, Master System and Genesis libraries since I was too poor to own those three consoles when they were being sold. Also grabbed some PS1 stuff, since I heard that the Pi 0 can handle turn based games decently. Lots of catching up on the stuff that I could not or can not currently afford.

Otherwise I've been playing the non-retro but still enjoyable Mary Skelter Nightmares on my Switch, and plan on playing some jarpigs on my 3DS and Vita in the future.

All the new 2022 handhelds are getting way too big and moving away from what made the 351mp and 351v great (pocket gaming) . Double the size and double the price for better dreamcast support. They think $250 retro handhelds that don't fit in the pocket are the future, but at that price point just pay $ 150 more for switch or steam deck.

Tinkering is probably my favorite part about handheld emulators. I had a Dingoo that I did all sorts of crazy Dingux stuff with. I've never played anything on Sega CD, but I think Snatcher is a Sega CD game so that might be cool. The PS1 stuff I am looking at is stuff that does not need L/R2 buttons, like Digimon World and Parasite Eve. Figure if I have a lot of fun with it that I might buy the Pi CM3 upgrade cart so I can play Dreamcast stuff as well.

I just leaned into it's aesthetic and set the frontend to something that looks like a gameboy. Snatcher runs on mine well so yeah do try that if you are into the genre. I personally loaded up a few of that generation's "interactive movies" onto the thing too. I wouldn't recommend a lot of them to other people though. >3DS
The screens on these things are hideous even bottom of the bin Chinese handhelds have better displays, also the console has to house 2 screens which isnt really needed for retro games but adds to the size of the device. I mean if your poor and dont mind 144p on a 3 inch screen sure it works.
>Vita
Over priced as shit currently, dual analog sticks isnt really required for anything it could play ether. Its not a bad device if you've already paid for one but your almost guarateed to spend twice as much for less compared to Chinese handhelds.

It's honestly it's own market Anon some people just want to spend $30-$100 for a device that can play up to a certain console and couldn't care less for the 3 devices you've listed or just dont want to go through the process of modding them. The 3DS is easy to mod but the time you'll spend finding a good deal for one is more than just hitting "buy now" on Amazon or Aliexpress and the screen is guarateed better.

I want to say in advance that I am a huge proponent of handheld gaming, and it's my preferred way to play if I have the choice. With that said, the Steam deck seems like a bad attempt at a good idea. Portable PCs capable of playing modern software is great, but $400 for a 64gb device that will most likely have cooling and battery issues is just inane. I imagine it will be superior to most expensive Chink handhelds at the same cost, but again what's the purpose? Will people be satisfied with a $400+ handheld that can play the biggest new titles for an hour or two before needing to be charged? How much will it weigh? How hot will it run? Can you toss it in a pocket and go? Portability is great, but I don't see the Steam Deck succeeding unless it's absolutely incredible. At least not the first iteration of the device. Dunno, maybe I am out of touch with what people want when it comes to handheld systems. Sorry for ranting and raving about the topic.

Honestly I'm waiting for the first wave to be released to the talking heads on youtube before purchasing one myself. I need to see exactly where its limits are before I spend the money on one.
I'd primarily use it for mid to higher tier emulation and PC games that came out in the mid to late 2000s. Playing modded Fallout New Vegas while in bed is really appealing to me.

I've been wanting a portable gaming PC for years, and I refuse to buy chink shit because I've been burned by them in the past. I trust Valve more than some random chinkland factory, but I still need to see how far it can go exactly.

From a normalfag perspective I can see why. It's a compact, portable, plug and play PC designed with both the functionality of a switch and that of a traditional PC with HDMI and peripheral support, all at the price point of a traditional console.

The people most excited about it are those who have been filtered from PC gaming this whole time because they're clueless on hardware or and are too lazy to learn anything themselves. For better or worse it's going to lower the barrier of entry for PC gaming.

That's why i said the MP it's the last great one, for now on because probably of the Steam Deck, things will be and remain big to be powerful enough to handle the next step on emulation.

But also, we are reaching a point of stagnation on those things, you can't emulate the next gen consoles on a small device without cooling and space, after Wii there's PS3/360/Wii U, things gets very hard.

Not only that, the cost itself also weights, they must remain reasonably cheap to be attractive, that's why i built my on emulation box and i don't care for the next gen or handhelds anymore for now on after the MP and the recent news on the upcoming ones.

cons, also no need to deplete them before charging
>gameboy led doesn't dim, so can't tell if the batteries are running low

Not familiar with the capabilities of the device but if you can go into RetroArch's scaling settings or get access to the shaders you can zoom in on the image and crop the game's screen around the edges. Depending on what you are playing this may be an acceptable compromise to cheat a little bit bigger feeling to the screen. I do it with my 19" PC monitor get to it to feel like a 21" monitor in some games where there's a lot of empty space around the edges of the screen. Little weird at first but you quickly get used to it. Remember these games were often designed to have a certain amount of image lost to CRT overscan.

I don't like the way the controller curves inward instead of outward if you grip it from the lower position to use the d-pad and buttons.
People play the switch from such a position but it is still sub-optimal.
In some games I predict I could adapt to using the left analog stick for movement and right shoulder buttons for action. But this would also be sub-optimal.
A google image search for controller attachments with the d-pad in the optimal position was not successful.

I predict the Steam Deck will cause at least one Chinese manufacturer to release a product which mirrors its controller set-up with the d-pad placed in a horizontal line with the analog stick, and possibly including dual touch pads on each side.

1. Buy $40 Android phone such as Moto e6
2. Root it.
3. Install ARM-compatible OS of your choice such as Linux
4. (optional) set RetroArch or frontend of your choice to boot instead of DE.
5. Attach controller accessory with wired USB connection such as Gamesir X2.

Size and form factor. Screen in integrer scaling is awesome for game boy and GBA - though, GBA needs more time to be better though gpSP core is already alright - in 2008 standards but that's alright for the system.

I just mirror my retroarch playlists and ROM folders between different systems, with the saves. Switch IS the superior system especially with all the 8bitdo you can buy for it but I also am not holding it in my hands in the bed.

Also, switch is easily jailbreaked, IF your model is pre summer 2018 so if you are out of luck, vita is better just because ANY vita is jailbreaked easily unlike switch. Unless you consider hunting down product from seller that was literally arrested and stopped from selling their shit, and micro soldering easy.

Maybe. Size and Dpad has merits to it. The analog stick in switch joycons is actually weirdly nice for stick to Dpad but still not a Dpad if that is what you want. Also drifting issues - more maintenance with the joycons more maintenance with the device itself as many "old" systems that are the hackable kind will have a fan failing already and need swapping of the fan and paste and shit.
But yeah, vita is not great and SNES at least in retroarch is disappointing though it may get better still.

This. These chink pieces of shit are worthless with their 640x480 screens. Displaying games without scaling is way too fucking tiny, and integer 2x scaling still looks like shit compared to the original handheld. The screen door effect is what makes the pixel art on handhelds so appealing, so either use an actual low res panel or use something with 400+ PPI (basically only a modern smartphone will have this) and then you can put on an LCD grid shader which is very close to the real thing.

There's a type-c version of that with no lag as it's direct input and the BT one has something like 12ms~

I was playing minish cap and it's impoossible to beat as there's an impassible room that crashes the game

also I see you're playing F-Zero Climax
does the maps image retention not bother you?

Why on earth would you go through the process of making a handheld for gaming but add a fucking face camera. Why not just get an OTG controller and pay as you go phone with better specs all for cheaper.

>> No.8307270

2 reasons: chink companies love bells and whistles. the more shit they can put in bullet points the better. chink companies also love a good deal. these screens may have already been made but were overproduced and the manufacturer discounted them wanting to get rid of them.

I've tried multiple of these controllers and they've all been very uncomfortable and some don't let me set the phone vertically for DS emulation which is retarded. It actually dosent! Its still android-based but they used a completely new operating system thats more optimized for what its doing rather than use the basic-ass android phone setup. Also it might not be ovious but the + now also has a touchscreen. Which makes me fucking erect for DS games.

>> No.8307937

Even with a touchscreen, playing DS games on a single 4:3 screen seems really awkward. At least with a 16:9 you can place both screens horizontally which isn't ideal but better.

Which is better for emulation between Vita and 3DS? Obviously the Vita is more powerful, but I assume with the 3DS there was much more interest in actually getting good emulators to run on the thing.

sure but this did not have enough of an impact to make up for the 3ds' weakness in terms of hardware
especially once hacking the vita became really easy
the vita is better and it's not close really
