Recently started exploring this genre a bit more, I'm sure there a lot of hidden gems. I liked Ikaruga as a kid but I always sucked at it. Most of these games seem like they are just designed to eat quarters, but I have never put a lot of effort into getting gud yet.

Start with Batsugun, Hishouzame or Sengoku Ace. they are very easy shmups for beginners to 1cc casually, then do some beginner challenges like nomiss or nobomb or both. Should take 10-15 hours then you can try some real shmups.

I'd recommend Rayforce, Raystorm, Dodonpachi, Ikaruga, Batrider or Garegga, Gunbird 2, Dragon Blaze, Donpachi, Pink Sweets, all fun for score play which is what good shmups revolve around.

when I 1cc them, unironically
eventually the genre will "click" for you and you'll be able to get those clears, don't worry. they're very memory-based and generally allow for a ton of errors through generous ressources (bombs and lives), so eventually you'll be able to 1cc

>> No.9748635

Sample them until you find a game you like so much that you can't stop thinking about it and playing it. Keep playing until a 1cc comes naturally, and go for more difficult games/goals as your general shmup skill increases. If you play games you don't truly care about just for arbitrary achievements, you're going to be miserable.

I generally stick to one until I beat it and I always limit myself to three continues so I'm neither credit feeding nor going straight for the 1CC. I'm not super into 1CCing games but I will go for them if I like the game and want to put in the required effort to get it.

I play all sort of genres, Im not just playing these games every day or anything like that, thats why progress is slow I suppose.
I like to "finish" games and I feel like 1cc-ing is how you finish shmups
And yeah I am having fun with them they are very exhilarating and I am slowly improving, it feels so good
My initial question was that I was curious how other people do it and what their pace is with these games, because at my pace its going to be a long time before I can actually participate in these threads unless the one game I played enough to know anything about and worth saying something about its mentioned

I usually bounce between two shmups that I have specific goals for, usually beyond a 1cc, either a score I'm happy with or a no death run.
I try to play a bit everyday and watch streams or replays as well, it helps with memorization.
I also play other genres casually without goals; I try to "get gud" at shmups mostly, they're very rewarding to replay and improve at.

the main thing that was an issue is the difficulty (of certain games) getting unmanagable for a lot of people, but shmups that have a good difficulty curve to them are really fair. But yeah, Truxton 2 is like that where its a quarter-muncher to anyone but the most diehard, and evne then its not even much "fun" in a traditional sense more like "whew, I actually survived this time", but thank god not every game in the genre is like that or I would've stopped playing em a long time ago...

Batsugun special is ranked 3/50 on difficulty in the wikia shmups list. Is this really supposed to be an accomplishment? Batsugun Original is already easy to clear with misses and bombs, but Special is a joke with the shields and stronger bombs.

By "1cc" you cleared just the first loop, not all four loops, yeah?

>Why don’t M2 bring their releases to Steam and PC? M2 planner Kazuki Kubota acknowledges that even on their trailers for the M2 Shot Triggers series of titles on Youtube, lots of people complain that the games aren’t being released on Steam. Horii states that the reason is because they have to account for various PC hardware environments. While their releases work decently on Windows 7, as soon as it hits Windows 10 slowdown occurs, and they haven’t found an acceptable solution yet. As soon as they find one, they’ll put more effort into PC releases.

the good thing about the ports is they will run on old hardware (core2duo, gf 7900gtx, DX9) , so if u have a genuine taito typeX2/nesica machine, in a cab, ur hardware is supported.

the disappointing thing about city connection ports is they use unity, unity dropped DX9 support back in like 2017, so all city connection games will only run under DX11, stupid when theres games that originally ran under DX9 like deathsmiles 1, deathsmiles 2 cave-pc version, akai katana on the typeX, now they only run under DX11,

theres also other games like gunbird, 1945, tengai, samurai aces, all DX11 only, these guys are professionals they know the score, everything arcade should have DX9 support.

most devs do get it right like M2, the darius cosmic collection works perfectly on a geforce 7900, G-darius also runs on the same gpu, tho it runs like shit, even on a 2500k/980ti, its just a mess of a port.

even the 2020 version of crimson clover runs 60fps@720, probably as its largely unchanged from the original arcade version on the typeX2, i dont know why city connection didnt take that approach with akai katana, what could be better than just updating or re-releasing the arcade version, instead of remaking the game in unity for DX11?

honestly its better to just play the typeX version of akai katana using teknoparrot, since it will be running on genuine hardware.

also exa arcadia owns the rights to akai katana and DDP, they sent a cease and dissist to mame forcing them to remove the games from mame, so fuck exa arcadia, dont buy any products they are trying to make money from. especially since they are trying to sell their arcade cartridges for like $1500-2000, its a joke!

TLDR; play the original arcade version of akai shin katana for the typeX2, or download the recent release from gamepciso

DDP DFK is plenty fine on PC except for one mode, the DDP DOJ remix one, I forget what it's called (Version A?), that one is fucked on PC for some reason, it has no slowdown at all. Kind of fun to play a mode with no slowdown, but it does make it janky as fuck at times when huge amounts of bullets are on screen. All other modes play just fine though.
