Didn't know there is more than one.

I bought Anthology and once in a while I play the campaign mode. I feel really sad every time I play this game because I started playing o shor time ago. I wanted to start playing it when it was a new game, because it seem more fun to play than SCII.
Ok, SCII has better graphics, better mechanics and stuff, but that's something special in BW that makes me love it more than SCII.

I actually have been playing through Starcraft again lately. I've always been terrified of playing it competitively though. Mostly on the rare occasions I find other people around my skill level and disposition we just mess around playing co-op against computers.

I wasn't too big a fan of the regular game, but I loved the custom/UMS scene in Broodwar. Helms Deep, Prison Break, Random Micro Challenge, Assassinate the President, Screen Mover, various tower defense maps, etc. Wasted countless hours with that shit and it was some of the most fun I've ever had with any vidya. Sadly it's all but dead now.

The level of play isn't as big as it was at the prime of BW's popularity. People playing it are either people who never moved on or the ones that wanted to try it after SC2. Servers like ICCup are no longer so hyper-competitive and the value of ranks has diminished. The most hardcore servers are the Korean ones like Fish.

In general the problem you'd have to face is that there's so much info on the game now that the entrance requirements are still pretty high. I don't think it would be stupid to re-learn it, you do what is fun for you.
I don't think the people online are all "really good" but that depends on your definition. Last time I played a Brood War game I went on ICCup, played Terran that I didn't ever main (I was a D+ level Zerg for my whole life cuz I suck), did random shit against some Protoss, quickly ran into 2000+ minerals and gas, and the guy even had the audacity to call me a fucking idiot that doesn't even know how to play the matchup - though he lost just because I parked Tanks outside his natural and was so sloppy at pushing them he got impatient and suicided his entire forces.

So in general just give it a try. There's really nothing to gain from Brood War now other than personal amusement.
