So I've noticed that Sailor Moon got some game adaptations during the 90's. Are any of them really good? I heard the beat'em up was actually fun.

>> No.1454404

The beat em ups are fun. Nothing spectacular going on, just your usual beat em up of the time. There are 2 for SNES I believe and one on Genesis.

The fighting games aren't that great and of course there's a plethora of puzzle type games.

I played this one by accident a few months ago and was fun. An average and repetitive Beat em up that has some cute voice samples.

>> No.1454428

The beat 'em ups are average. Not bad.

The Super Famicom RPG is...eh. I played a fan translation. I suppose it could be a thrill if you're a big fan, but I found it not-so-good. Boss battles tend to be repetitive and go on for ages. It's a pretty simple RPG. I'd recommend it as a time-waster if you're into that kinda thing. I'm probably kinda bias against it since I'm not a big fan.

...Come to think of it, I have no idea why I played that game to completion.

There's also a beat em up arcade exclusive that's really good.

The level scaling in that game is fucking all over the place. It was like-

Level 6: 60 hp
Level 7: 75 hp (the game expects you to fight the boss at this point)
Level 8: 238hp and suddenly half of all the total skills you can learn activate at once

I get they did that because you play one character at a time and then when they reunite, the monsters are much more difficult, but you can technically grind your characters into mid-game strength in less than an hour at the start of the game, sometimes completely by accident since the random encounters happen anywhere from 1-step to 200-steps.

Back in the day, a spainard friend of mine actually asked a store that imported vidya if they could get Sailor Moon beat 'em up after she saw it on a magazine.

Thing is, being an NTSC-J game running on PAL, the picture was black-and-white. She was bummed, but still played it and beat it.

I remember the game being very fun, though.

The fighting game for the SFC is my shit. My friends don't believe me when I try to tell them it's legit.

I got 2 SM games when I was a kid, the Megadrive game, and the SuperS game for SNES.

the MD game is a beat em up and it's also on SNES, it's pretty fun... repetitive, not too many enemies, but you fight almost every major enemy from the first season. I played the shit out of it with my friend back then.

The SuperS game is a typical 2D fighting game, I remember it has some customization too if you're playing in VS mode which was nice, and had almost all the sailor senshi on it, but no enemies iirc. Played the shit out of it too with my female cousins when we were kids. Good times.

I need to play another story, I heard it's a pretty good RPG.

>> No.1455108

I'm actually watching the show for the first time and I'm in the middle of SuperS right now. I'll have to give the RPG on the SNES a try after I finish.

Thank you, I actually remembered I did play this game back in like 1999 or 2000, back when I first discovered emulation, but of course it was untranslated so I didn't made much progress.

I could never really get into SuperS. The focus on the little pipsqueak just never clicked with me.

... dammit, I just realized that I never did finish my S DVD collection. Having the episodes downloaded just doesn't feel the same.

Wow. The original characters in Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon: Another Story actually look pretty good. I could see these being in the actual show.

The first seasons is my favorite, I felt the subsequent arcs didn't felt as good as cohesive as the first one. I remember when they started airing R on TV I was astonished, I didn't know there was more SM, I thought it ended with the first season... but after a couple episodes, it became kind of bland, Chibi usa was also a let down... I still watched most of it, but it was kind of a drag... Stars was good enough though, even with the annoying bishie/transgender guys which I couldn't stand much, the plot and in general that last season was pretty good, but not as good as the first, original one.

that final episode of the first season, my fucking god, I think I cried like a bitch

I actually love the puzzle games, the balloon ones especially. The beat 'em ups are okay, nothing too special. The arcade one (which seems to be less popular than the SNES/Genesis ones) is called the best of the bunch by some people but it's my least favorite. The sprite work is great but that's about it.

And the RPG has an okay story and great OST but also has a lot of wasted potential. It's one of those games that could really do with a rebalancing hack. There's a ton of options for strategizing with formations, dual, triple and group techniques but all in all the game unfortunately boils down to grinding till you're OP for the area that you're in. It was also a bit too linear and could really have done with more sidequests.

I played the beat 'em up. The one on the Genesis. Don't know if there were any other ones. It was awful. Repetitive as fuck, even for a beat 'em up. I remember the elevator scene in particular was really boring and not fun at all.
