Goth inspired? Does it smell like Patchouli? Bad Mojo is inspired by a Kafka story.
Anyway, Neuromancer on C64, which is imo the best version. Fast loading activated on an emulator is recommended. The book is worth a read too for anyone who digs that stuff.

Bara is my second favorite from them, but Memoire is my favorite. Also Tetsu was less operatic, but had a more autentic vibe and more expression, and most of all, he wrote some great lyrics.

Ontopic: pic related is Insmouth no yakata, a virtual boy horror game inspired by Lovecraft. Worth checking out especially if you can play it on a real VB (using a flash cart, cause the game is rare and pricey)

No. Grimdark doesn't imply goth, and goth doesn't even necessarily imply grimdark.

Take Tim Burton, for example. All his movies have obvious gothic inspiration, but not all of them are grimdark. The Nightmare Before Christmas is a great example of non-grimdark goth.

I think "gothic" has become a very confused term.

Originally, "gothic" was used to describe the Germanic people who invaded the Roman empire. Later, there was a revival of their style in the 1800s for architecture.

Then it was used to describe the literature of Bram Stoker and Mary Shelley; the dark nature of man, the line between man and beast, etc...

The first time the word was applied to music was in 1967 by a music critic who described The Doors as "gothic rock". Sort of a dark, emotionally charged atmosphere.

So then "goth" was used to talk about post-punk bands like Bauhaus who made music with a dark, haunting, stark, or introspective theme rather than the extroverted aggression of punk towards the world.

I guess goth rock fashion is what inspired the modern image of "goth" as being stuff that is spooky, sad, dark, gritty, and emotional. Honestly I feel like a lot of people use it without knowing anything about it, kind of like the word "emo" or even "punk".

In regards to your image of "gothic", I'd say those things are indeed gothic in the modern sense of the word.

For games with a gothic theme, there's obviously Castlevania. See also Nosferatu for SNES. Vampire Hunter D on PSX is also there, though I've never played it. Darkstalkers.

Oh yeah, you're right. It's a been a few years. Seileen is the project with DJ Sisen (standing) and Selia (sitting) in that picture. Selia is a beautiful counter-tenor and sometimes performs with a lute player. The goth events in Japan are pretty awesome except for being really expensive ($30-40 entry) and filled with cigarette smoke so much that it feels like an opium den.

I went to an after party once and hung out with Selia and Issay from DER ZIBET, who spent an hour drunkely telling me I need to believe in myself lol. Good times.

I saw Der Zibet in like 2009 at a goth event called Midnight Mess, so G-Schmitt was like 20 years before my time lol. I hadn't heard of them before, though. Thanks for the link sounds good.

I also saw Aural Vampire and GPKism at similar events. Aural Vampire didn't really interact with the audience though, they left after they performed. Shame since the singer is freakishly attractive. I also hung out with Ken from GPKism, who was actually a total bro (dragbro?)

the guy on the left there is Misa, he was one of the biggest guys from Osaka back then when I was in Tokyo visiting live houses. His bands were always great and had many fans that followed him, I saw Aioria live once or twice.

I think the last band he was in was Babylon, and he is now producing a band called Mejibray (I personally don't like it).

I've also heard he was doing music for video games, no idea what kind of games though.

Well Guniw Tools began in 1989 due to Full wanting to get out of game development, so he's been around for quite a while. He's one of those Jack of all trades types like Dada of Velvet Eden. If remember correctly he also directed all their PVs and created all their stage sets/designs.

Full's name is Tomo Furukawa and his wiki lists Darwin and he's listed as the designer on the Darwin wiki so I assume it's legit.

If it works in GOG then just do what they do, use dosbox or the windows patch from a third party source. GOG pretty much does squat to get things working. If it's broke and there's no fix outside of GoG there's no fix with GOG and they're fine selling games like that too.

Shame the MSX translation for this will never be completed. It's like Shin Megami Tensei crossed with Snatcher.

Not getting games like this and Cyber Doll bugs the shit out of me. We really got lucky with Snatcher ending up localized.

The point is that it's mostly easy to use as a synchtube kind of site, and you can make your own playlists and leave them playing even if you're AFK.

Yeah, I could never really get a good goth/j-music/VK discussion on /mu/. They simply aren't old enough to know most of the stuff we're posting here, I think.
I remember there used to be a guy who dumped lots of albums on FLAC and Mp3, he posted some Jun Togawa and other jap new wave stuff, but they shitposted him to death calling "new wave fucking sucks, get the fuck out, weeaboo¨, etc.

/vr/ is also the best place to discuss retro anime that isn't /m/-related, since you can't do it on /a/ either.

Yakouchuu 1 is on Super Famicom and it's the same kind of game. Sadly no eng translation and I don't think there will ever be one for the N64 game cause it has a lot of audio, rather than text.
