besides gb/gba, what systems can be reasonably emulated on a smartphone without using a plug in controller?

>> No.2245518 [DELETED]

Not retro.

>> No.2245540

Game Gear/Master System and NES, maybe. You should just buy a controller anyway, though.

>> No.2245564

If you have a Galaxy phone I think there's a N64 emulator.
Like >>2245540 said, I would just recommend emulating with a controller honestly. Touchscreen controls aren't very good imo.

smartphones can emulate right up to dreamcast if you have a decent one

but as the other anons thread, touch screen controls are t rash and anything other than rpg's are going to be irritating to play

I am using RetroArch app to run PSX, GBA, SNES, NES, N64 and Chrono Trigger for Nintendo DS on my Kindle Fire 2nd Gen. The overlay controls (touch screen) are good enough to run some old school RPGS. But any other games suck with the overlay controller. Like Super Mario Bros for NES, holding B + Dpad is fine for running, but if you try to jump, it fails. Seems like anything past 2 inputs can not work with overlay controller. But anyway, beside that issue, everything I run on RetroArch runs amazing EXCEPT Nintendo DS games. Chrono Trigger is playable, but it isn't enjoyable (for me) right now.

RetroArch is pretty badass if you wanna run through some old PSX, NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, SEGA GEN and N64 games. It works on my KindleFire, I'm not at all sure about Smartphones though. It runs a few more systems but, those are the only ones I have tried.
Don't think it will run PSP but there is always PPSSPP for android.

Every system. It's easier if you buy a bluetooth controller (I hear PS3 controllers work quite well if you have one), but otherwise, it's really just a matter of you being okay with slightly delayed controls.

"Slightly" delayed

>> No.2245876

>>2245873
For controllers? PS3 controllers are worth trying, yeah. Some Wii controllers will work as well, with the assistance of third party app or built-in support in emulators. Nyko Playpads have really shit firmware, but I know that ePSXe has native support for them, at least. Then there's MOGA controllers, use those if you're rocking a smartphone. Only drawback is that they use AAA batteries, while other options use lithium ion.

>> No.2245885

>>2245517
Anything up to PSP in age, pretty much. As long as you stick with turn-based or something like puzzles, you're golden. N64 and Saturn are about the only things that don't count here.

ePSXe actually has a really good D-Pad for touch, no joke I used to play Ridge Racer Type 4 with little problem.

>> No.2245909

>>2245876
I got the newest MOGA ones for Christmas. I probably wouldn't use one otherwise as they aren't worth what they cost if you use a tablet, but if you get one on sale they're actually pretty good.

>AAA
Mine doesn't use batteries. It can even serve as a battery for your device.

>> No.2245936

RetroArch+reicast+PPSSPP and you're done.

>> No.2245971

New to Android emulation. Why can´t I find the folders where the emulators are installed?
I can´t even find them with a file explorer.
Creating loose folders for ROMs is a mess.
Also, where the fuck are the savestates?
Are there better emulators for android than the ones from that robert "jew" broglia?

>>2245517
About every emu on the store is pretty well compatible. Saturn, N64, and Dolphin are the only ones I would say aren't great. But those are mostly up for WIP and to say it'll be possible one day anyway.

Touch pads suck, but they're not the end of the world. I find playing Sonic pretty easy on them.

>> No.2246113

>>2245971
>are there better?
RetroArch is the only comparable one for what he covers. He may be a jew, but he's a jew that knows how to make shit. You can always sideload them.

As for folders, I just make one named "ROMs" then a bunch of folders dividing them by system. Organized at least.

>> No.2246190

>>2245517
anything up to 4th and some gen can be emulated, if you want stuff that's easy to play on a touch screen then then it's more about the style of game than the system.

A shooter for the megadrive or gameboy will both be horrible with touch controls, while a turn based rpg will be much easier, regardless of the console.

Though I do find the simple controls of the Atari 2600 translate reasonably well to a touch screen, I mean they're not great but the games are playable.

What are you talking about? All OP said was "Besides GB/GBA" as a small intro. This thread has nothing to do with the GBA at all aside from that small mentioning but with what retro systems can be emulated too.
/vr/ is not for DISCUSSIONS about the GBA (though that thread was nice wit all that whining about discussing it, that was fun) but we are not in a bubble here, these newer systems exist, so crying even if they are just briefle MENTIONED is completely idiotic. If you're good with your phones touch screen for GB/GBA then you'll be happy using it for any system.
You can even use your phone as a balance board for Wii emulation. If it doesn't work at first just jump up and down on it a few times to get it going.
