This. The only RPG on Genesis I would say is flat out BAD is Super Hylide. Other than that they all range from decent to fantastic. PSIV is easily one of the best RPGs of the 16 bit era and due to some of it's design like macros has aged the best as well.

I would also take Beyond Oasis over either Secret of Mana or Zelda any day.

>> No.2265813

I generally agree with /vr/ users' opinions on games, but frankly I don't get the hate for Legend of Dragoon. I used to play it a lot on my PS2 and I loved every single thing about it. The characters have a lovely background, the elemental mechanics are also nice and man the first intro sequence is awesome. I'm looking forward to play it again on emulator, since I could never beat it when I was younger.

>> No.2265827

How many jrpgs had you played before it? That seems to be a pretty big factor in people's reactions to it. It's a decent game, but rather generic. It seems that people who played it early on in their RPG playing careers have a real affection for it. While others who had been into the genre for a while before that found it rote and uninspired.

Both are perfectly valid I think and it seems to be the case with a lot of RPGs of the era. PS1 was a very RPG heavy system and there are many people who got their first real taste of the genre on it. There are people around here who truly think Legend of Legia was outstanding, because they got to it at just the right time in their lives.

8 Eyes has become one of my new favorites and while it might not get a ton of hate its still glossed over.

I don't know, it just has a sense of exploration and all the levels have this exotic feel to them, it just sticks with me. Plus its about fighting dudes after the nuclear apocalypse.

Just a unique game that probably could've used a little extra polish.

I am sure there are a ton more that I am just forgetting.

What? Naw

I rented this game more than MM7 back in the day. Hell I rented it more than I rented MMX, too.

I fucking loved it. It's really well done.

It's my personal favourite game on the NES, and I hadn't even heard of it until 2011. (UKfag)

I'm fully aware of all it's flaws but I still find it enjoyable and have a lot of fond nostalgic memories associated with. Plus it had great music.

Yesterday i restarted double dragon for the 50th time after loosing at the machine gun boss.
I almost hated it.

Same here. I have a soft spot in my heart for that stupid bobcat. I almost wished that the PS1 game wasn't as terrible as it was so he could still hang around on consoles.

My aunt bought me this game for my SNES back when I was 4 or 5 and I loved it. I think the farthest I got in it was when I got to the factory level.

>> No.2276276

It was really fun to me too.
It was like a point and click adventure game, but with a frustrating amount of challenge. That said, I never finished it.

ok. I'll bite. why do you love this game?

I loved being a sadistic asshole to pacman. I would often make him eat the caterpillar as many times as possible or make him mad as ass. There were a few situations I have no clue how it happened years ago and I still have no clue.

I never get why people give bog-standard JRPGs so much shit.

Like Breath of Fire 1 for example. Or Earthbound (for being a 'Dragon Quest clone. Like that's a bad thing)

Some games deserve ridicule, and scorn; like Secret of the Stars for being so bad.

>> No.2276542

that game got vindicated like WW though

What are you talking about

People tend to love IX more than the other two PS1 FFs (though not as much as tactics)

>> No.2276547

I think people bitch more about the fact there was 6 megaman games on the NES without much changes. They're all good in their own right but if you already played like 3 already you probably will bitch about a fourth one.

>> No.2276554

well not many people hate it so why would you add it?

played it recently, kind of get it, didn't really, was fun though.

I want to emulate Neo-Geo, Neo-Geo Pocket Color, GBA and SNES.
What should I install to have the LEAST number of emulators for this many systems?

Simon's Quest is so vastly superior to the format of 1 and 3 and it gets knocked so hard. Some 'best of' video list I was watching a few months ago said something along the lines of Castlevania 2 not even qualifying for the list since it was so bad...How the Fuck?! It's as comfortable to play as 1 and 3 as far as side-scrolling, jump/whip mechanics and so on, instantly better than 1 and 3 due to the fact that you can go back to previous screens (not a claustrophobic side-scroller)...once you add in the special whips and whip upgrades, special weapons/items with more than just damaging abilities (garlic to summon, diamond to call tornado...) and the body parts which serve purposes (the rib for example) it becomes harder to argue that 1 and 3 had anything on 2. Also, 3 is tough on my eyes; they wanted to make it look better and more full but it was just way over-textured.

FFVIII is my favorite, maybe not the best. The junctioning system is spectacular and the low-level technique is fantastic..that wouldn't have been an option in 7 or 9. The soundtrack was great for its time being live (I think that was the first of the FF games to have a live instrumentation/organic soundtrack, could be wrong). It has my favorite story and all of the theories that go along with the story only make the game a bit more cryptic and a lot more fun to play, a first in my opinion, 7 and 9 fan fiction/theories were really loose and disconnected.
