Initially I was annoyed about eBay forcing you to use PayPal to do just about anything and effectively double-dipping with their fees, so I stopped doing buying or selling for 5 years.

Eventually I figured 80% of something is better than 100% of nothing. I rarely even think about eBay fees. All I know is I got extra cash, and my closet is (slowly) clearing up.

And why are you giving out your number in your Craigslist post?

As for my doubles, I individually sell anything I think is worth money, commons get bundled with systems. And I try to keep it to what can fit in a USPS flat rate box so the buyer knows exactly what they'll pay for shipping.

I bite the bullet and just auction them on Ebay.

I don't have time to put up with bullshit like you listed in the OP. Auctions are pretty much a gaurenteed sell and yeah, I may only get 60% of the pricecharting price, but the dude who gets its probably not going to be a reseller, and is usually pretty happy to get a game at a cheaper price.

I've never had negative feedback left and I've sold probably 30+ games. As long as you make damn sure to be super accurate they can't really do shit unless it doesn't work.

I also video tape myself playing and booting up the games, before wrapping it and putting it in the box I'm going to mail them.

Is it a lot of work? Yeah, but the one guy who tried to fuck with me didn't have shit to say once I linked him that video.

>> No.2446682

>>2446678
0.99 cents.
I usually set up my shipping so I make a couple of bucks, and unless you're selling some shitty game no one wants someone will usually bid on games.

I usually prefer to sell lots. I bundle 2 worse games 1 one good game (like Jurassic Park and Out of this World with Final Fantasy 3 for instance) I find that it helps move product because people are willing to splurge a bit more for Final Fantasy 3, because they'll get 2 other games with it.

>> No.2446756

>not the same prices as 1999
>more like 2009

meh, I own quite a few rare games, but it is annoying to see a lot of SNES games nearly double the price they were 5 years ago. I bought Final Fantasy II for like $15 back then, now its nearly $40. I'm not a poorfag anymore so I could afford to get any game I wanted, but it still seems like such a ripoff. It makes me sick.

As much as I enjoy old games, a part of me wished they were just dropped in a landfill or nuked so that were could just play emulators instead of paying for exorbitantly priced cartridges that are probably going to start failing soon anyway.

Look up other auctions. I don't have a codified formula, but I take into consideration:

How many other active auctions there are.
How much past ones have sold for, as both straight auctions or Buy It Now listings.
How many went without selling and why (ie they tend to be $10 higher than the ones that do sell.)
Were they complete items or just the cartridge.

Also consider how much time you're investing in the sale. Even if you're sloppy with the listing and shipping, you'll probably spend an hour in all on it. If the cartridge isn't worth your time, bundle.

If you're going to sell, you might as well get the most you can. If you find that morally wrong, try trading.

Video game price chart however is often time exaggerated. Look at the completed listings on ebay, take note of how often the game sells too. If it only sells for $20 once a couple months, it's probably not worth $20.

Yeah, I don't feel TOO bad charging a little below the completed listing price off eBay, especially since the only time I ever sell anything is because it's a game I'm tired of, or no longer care to own a physical copy of. I never buy for the sake of reselling. I've tried trading before and I've gotten some good stuff, but there's a lot of people who are stingy as fuck when it comes to the things they want in exchange for theirs. At least on Instagram, which it pains me to admit, is where I've done about half of my trading.

The problem is you weren't advocating on just selling a good find or picking it up for an actual purpose. You were going on about buying a copy of the same game just to spite a group of people who wouldn't even know you picked it up in the first place. You're acting like the grandma in that one episode of Malcolm in the Middle where she buys Christmas gifts and then doesn't give them out to her family out of spite despite the family not even knowing she bought the gifts in the first place.

eBay is probably going to side with you. The only way they'd side with him is if the listing specifically said broken, not working or something like that. Even if the listing said "untested", it's sort of implied that it should working condition.

The no returns thing is more for people who suddenly decide they don't want the item after all and stuff like that. A seller can't get away with specifying no returns then sell broken items as working.

Most sellers are honest and/or decent, but there are always a few exceptions.

They'll side with you. That exact situation happened and I received a defective dreamcast with a wonky laser. Wasn't any indication in the description it did not work. When I contacted him for a refund, he basically just told me "tough luck, kid. should've messaged me and asked if it worked"

So I opened a claim and within an hour or two Ebay gave me a full refund. Didn't even need to bother returning anything. So I ended up getting a for-parts dreamcast, two controllers, a VMU, cords, and a handful of games for free.

Obviously had a cunty seller. He probably learned his lesson once he simply lost a bunch of money.

I've never had an issue selling (but I am incredibly detailed in my listings as I'm not a fucking volume seller), but I've had plenty of issues buying including:

>Getting sent Secret of Mana instead of Secret of Evermore
Seller ended up sending me Secret of Evermore then never sending me money for return shipping for the copy of Secret of Mana so I sold it to my friend for 20 bucks
.
>Getting a rather large order (Thousand Arms, Rival Schools, Vandal Hearts 1 and 2) lost in shipping which took a fucking long time to resolve.
This was a massive pain in the ass because I got a really good deal and it went through the Global Shipping program which is really strange how it got lost. I still haven't found copies of Vandal Hearts 2, Thousand Arms or Rival Schools for a decent price.

>Getting defective copies of Super Smash TV and Comix Zone that I had to pay out of pocket to send back.
This was annoying because I was out of pocket an additional ~12 or so bucks for having to ship back to the US and the seller kept selling off stuff I was interested in for returns so I ended up with Uncharted 1-3 and Armored Core Silent Line for a bit extra which I wasn't super happy with but I wanted to just be done with it.

I just want to say one thing. I don't love the fact resellers are sweeping up games to resell at prices that I personally find ridiculous so I can't enjoy my hobby as easily as I'd like. However, I've come to appreciate the fact that had this person not salvaged through the garage sale to find and buy these games, that little old grandmother might have just thrown it in the trash or something. So in a way, they're barely doing a small service to protect a lot of games from total destruction.

It's also going to e really great when prices start to fall. Don't ell me they aren't going down because they will. It may take longer for the Mario/Zelda/etc titles to go down because of their popularity, but eventually this retro craze bubble will bust and we can (hopefully) buy from the idiots who are spending the big bucks now.

that's RAID 0, mate
that shit was designed for all speed, no safety -- fast reads, fast writes, pretty much jams two or more drives into one big and fast logical one, if one drive dies, you're totally fucked and you better have made regular backups

RAID 1 is just a set of mirrored disks. Fast reads (up to RAID 0 speed), (slightly) slower writes than with a single disk, hilarious 50% or more overhead, and when one dies, you pull it out and slot another in. Not a substitute for backups, but a nice layer of protection with some benefits.

man, now I'm wondering if someone has ever done something as silly as a RAID 1 array of RAID 0 arrays

Sure, and it's not that silly. Make a RAID1 so you have the benefits of redundant data on two drives at the lowest level. Make a few of them. Then stripe them for the benefits of size and performance. Best of both worlds.

I thought I saved a reseller pic that had an NES, Chinese adapter, AV cords, Chinese controllers, and Mario/Duckhunt for $100, but I guess I didn't. I sold my collection last year. What pisses me off is I would see, and still do see, resellers posting shit like this:
>NES
>5 games
>extremely shit tier games that are worth about $3 each
>"$80 THIS IS A GOOD DEAL"
>people were actually jumping all over it

When I sold my collection, I would try to make my bundles worth it. I had an NES + cords, Power Pad, Zapper, 2 controllers, and 8 games. I don't remember all of the games I had in the bundle, but there was Super Mario Bros/Duckhunt/WCTM, SMB 2, SMB 3, Shinobi, Megaman 2, Shatterhand, and 2 others for $80. I get bombarded with "would you take $50?" or "can I just get ___". I had a CIB Super Metroid for $75 and had a couple of resellers who wanted it for $30-$40.

Is eBay still a hard ass about modded consoles? I recall at one time they were ruthless in not only taking down chipped systems, but also SNES & Genesis systems where the extent of the modding was plastic cut out of the cartridge slot.
When I got back into selling recently, I skirted the issue by showing the (American) system with a Japanese game running in it, making no mention I cut the slots.

Also bootlegs, I'll often see bootleg carts listed, but the seller usually describes it as a "prototype" or doesn't say anything at all.
