So how would I run say my N64 to one of these? Something that only has a Male VGA input?

>> No.2496223

>>2496206
Like do I just need one of these?

>>2496223
Or I guess this is the correct one
http://www.amazon.com/Composite-S-Video-Converter-Screen-Version/dp/B003NUN7DG

Mainly asking because I've aquired a nice CRT monitor, and would like to replace my TV with it, I already have the convertors to hook up the audio to my amp.

>> No.2496235

First you need to mod the N64 for RGB and Sync.

Then you need to take that make it RGB HV. Some converter will be needed. Or maybe an Extron.

>> No.2496247

>>2496235
So it wouldn't just work with a convertor box?

Couldn't I just like get a TV tuner for my PC and hook it up that way?

>> No.2496257

>>2496247
Apparently that has lag issues

>>2496206
This monitor is good for a Dreamcast, to hook a N64 u need to enable RGB by modding the console first and second you will need some sort of scart to vga adapter or a converter It will be too expenssive

>> No.2496386

Converting interlaced signals like the N64s to progressive scan like a VGA monitor will look like shit without fairly expensive scaling hardware. Get a good consumer CRT SDTV that has Svideo if you want your retro consoles to look B+/A- quality without spending significant moneys

>> No.2496389

>>2496386
So then there's no good TV tuners with minimal latency?

>> No.2496392

>>2496389
Is not just the latency you will get screen tearing like you wouldn't believe but yeah "TV tuners" aren't what you would want anyway. You can use the super shitty Chinese $6 usb video capture dingle everyone buys first and learn a little bit about it. Use a program called Dscaler you can really manipulate the songs for your video input through that and if you apply no filters and only render the odds numbers fields (240p) you can get a video stream you might be able to play with but it still won't come close to the quality and response you'd get from a regular 99 cent thrift store CRT tv with a good brand name and Svideo input.

>> No.2496394

Would something like this look better if the PC monitor in question had the same native resolution? Is it even very easy to find 480p PC monitors anymore?

Monitors with only one input are a disgusting shame. All that lead, cadmium and so on, all that weight to lug around too, and if that one little connector breaks, the whole hazardous device is fucked, and it can temp you to get two of them, and it takes up space while limiting how many things you can plug in. They should have hit them with taxes back when dual scan LCD screens were getting reasonably priced. That way, at least LCD screens would have gotten a reputation as ghosty and laggy.

So, yeah. how about all them extra connections? BNC, DVI, TV inputs, non-x86 platform inputs ... which ones has everyone heard of? Obviously BNC was somewhat common on higher end tubes, so that's more a question of what it can convert with - SCART, right?

>> No.2496402

>>2496394
CRTs don't have native resolutions and any LCD other than tiny ones with a 640x480 native resolution will be shit.

>> No.2496407

>>2496397
Well they were made to be professional work tools, at least the higher end one I have, so there was no reason for them to put additional inputs

>> No.2496418

>>2496407
But that IS a reason for them to put on a BNC connector, maybe even a sun or mac connector.

No, like if you have a console that can output VGA and win9x PC.

>> No.2498178

I used LCDs with my win9x machines in the 90's and still do today. At the time I also had CRTs because LCDs had pretty shitty color and contrast but that's no longer an issue with modern LCDs and hasn't been for many many years. I'd only need to run win9x on a CRT if I was an emufag or wannabe hipster.

In my personal experience, using a good quality tv tuner introduce slight lag, perhaps comparable to simply using LCD TVs. For me, that's acceptable but that may not be the case for you.

I know eh! That's the perverse mentality that wrongheaded console scum are coming at us with in the first place! Fucking nintendo is synonymous with channel 3, but then you hear about all these esoteric gimmick cables that fuck that standard up! So they implement a cheesy replacement, then they implement a cheesy replacement again - ripping of a PS/2 port, then they backtrack and split it into more cables, going back to those disgusting BNC style cables, except they can't even get the actual component colors right, using green, yellow and magenta or some nonsensical shit like that!

And now they're fucking back to square 1 with HDMI and ADMIT they were dead fucking WRONG to kidnap audio away from the video cable in the first place!

Yes. Flood victims.

I wonder if with a lot of careful cleaing with deminearlised water (or as long as they are still dirty normal one- those few ions won't make it worse) they could be restored or if the dirty water containing gad knows what has physically destroyed them beyond revivability.
