i just got this at the thrift store. i play my playstation more than any of my other consoles so it seemed neat.

what's advantages or whatever between this RF Apadtor and composite video? just a neat retro thing? isnt composite better cause it's newer? (wrong board to say THAT, i bet)

anyway i'm glad /vr/ exists cause /v/ sucks and has too many threads

>> No.2592812

You can play PS1/PS2/PS3 games on ancient TV sets which don't support anything but RF, that's literally it.

>isnt composite better cause it's newer? (wrong board to say THAT, i bet)

Please lurk more, not just because you might learn something, but the whole way your post reads totally reeks of /v/.

RF and composite don't have that much of a difference IMO. They both however are on the bottom list for picture quality.

Rf is worse then composite

well vr is the new v so you should probably head back

RF is terrible. That's said, maybe you'll end up with some old but cool tv that you want to use. I always pick up weird connectors and adapters at the thrift store , you never know when they'll come in handy.

I have the Madcatz equivalent to that, it supports Playstation and Nintendo consoles. It's useful to me because I'm playing on a CRT without a dedicated video channel.

I'm not sure how his post "reeks of /v/", it's not like he was intentionally trying to start an argument, he wasn't using any /v/ memes, and he was being generally polite. The only thing that hinted of /v/ was saying that /v/ sucks... but I think that's something we can all agree with... Also, I really hope the whole "lurk moar" mentality doesn't invade this board, it's gotten to such a ridiculous point on other boards that you can't ask questions at all.

The rf adaptor is one of the things about retro gaming I'm glad to see go. Its useful as a nostalgia piece but since you didnt seem to know what it was im guessing you are too ypung to have used it. The only other thing its useful for is hooking up systems to older or cheaper tvs that only have rf in. The best news is now that they have changed the format of broadcast tv you should pick up less interference in your picture. Which is why I'm glad to see it go. With long rf cables and poorly shielded wores you can get picture bleed through. Some as bad as seeing a phantom tv image over your game. Thats why the switch is there between 3 and 4.

RF to composite is probably a bigger jump than composite to s-video. Especially when you factor in the godawful audio.

Composite will give you slightly better image quality than RF, but the main reason to go with composite is that RF doesn't support stereo sound, making any game where positional audio is important like Metal Gear Solid much more difficult to play.

Well fortunately the NES was mono, Genesis was mono too (except for the headphone jack).

But yeah, there's absolutely no reason to use RF ever unless it's some extremely special oddball tv.

>> No.2595316

Back in the early 90s most TVs didn't have a whole range of inputs, if not just a single coax/antenna connection. So the RF unit was a necessity the as the one connection was used for both watching TV and playing games, if not also a VCR.

>> No.2595345

>>2595137
Genesis was absolutely stereo. The headphone jack was here for two reasons: TV sets were usually mono, and the legacy 8-pin DIN Sega used was lacking a pin to carry that new channel.

>> No.2595348

>>2595316
Back in the early 80s here all TVs had at least one SCART RGB input, so, meh.

Half-right, half-wrong. The model 1 only had stereo output through the headphone jack, the A/V output from the back was mono only. However, just about every model after that (Model 2, CDX, Nomad, X'Eye, etc.) outputs stereo through the A/V port. The model 3 is the only Genesis system that doesn't output stereo by any means.

No, please re-read my previous post. The Genesis 1 *was* stereo, period.

It's weird because lately if I reply or ask a question on any thread here I've received more heated replies than sincere "let's have a legitimate conversation" reply.

>> No.2597460

>>2597428
I'm the guy he's replying to and that post there was probably my only "heated" reply on this board or any mention on lurking more ever. I didn't even think I was the least offensive, and people called me enough names. I was just concerned about OP's writing style and the fact that maybe he didn't fit in here just yet. In fact I even answered his main question, fucker didn't even thank me.

I mean, we are all allowed to be ignorant at one point, but, the fact that he mentioned "composite being better because it's newer" (as simplistic and partially inaccurate piece of information as it is) not even be allowed here as a statement (I mean, he was probably joking but his "pun" felt so shallow) means this board is some mental case about nostalgia and old stuff, which a simple lurk could just prove him wrong.

Also, since he's an inbreed from /v/ (we all are, but he's fresh), and one of his complaint was "has too many threads" which doesn't really make sense per se, led me to believe he needed to better assert the kind of environment (4chan.org) he was digging in before posting any further.

Also, fuck anybody who picked on me for my post, I probably defended the lot of you in some other occasions when you were bullied by some internet tough guy/notretro/lmgdfy, like for that one anon who recently asked about the Twin Famicom.

I'm not picking on you and since I'm not the original guy you replied to I took no offense. I'm with you on "we are all allowed to be ignorant" point you made but it seems as if some people on /vr/ seem agitated with their replies lately, not ignorant.
