3D Realms Anthology bundle. At first I wasn't going to buy it, but then I thought what the hell. For my surprise some of the games were removed just a few days later due to some copyright mess and now I have a steam full of rare games.

You still have time to get the other jedi knight games. Jedi Outcast and Academy are the best.

Saw the video of lgr about pic related it a while ago and now seeing it on the sale made me buy it, didn't even know it was on steam. Haven't tried it out yet, but I'm probably in for a wild ride.
Also shogun total war, but sadly it got released 2000..oh well.

Harvester is one of my favorite adventure games. Just don't look at any walkthroughs or anything, the puzzles are pretty logical and there's sometimes multiple and surprising approaches. I played it through and much later found out that I had missed all kinds of stuff. The music is also GOTY.

I'm usually really bad at point and click puzzles, but I will try to do it as much as I can on my own

Why would you buy a retro game?

>why not?

>>2894226
Remakes I get, but it's more convenient just to pirate most of the old games so you don't have to run them with steam

>> No.2894232

Nabbed the System Shock games, Hexen, Alien Soldier and that new Turok remaster/enhanced port.

Also Deathmatch Classic (that's /vr/ right?) hoping to get a server going with some friends.

Nothing. I go to GOG for my retro pc needs.

>and that new Turok remaster/enhanced port.

I would have got that,b ut they're asking too much for that, and a 20% off price is not worth it.

It's a nice port though.

>>2894229
Most of these games (at least that I've tried) don't actually need Steam to run, it's just that you can download them through Steam. At the very least this is true for Doom, Hexen, RCT2 and the Fallout games.

I'm glad I've got them on Steam though because that new Steam controller + Steam big picture mode on my HD CRT is going to be glorious

>> No.2894248

>>2894237
Yeah, I hear that, it's a pretty steep price tag.

I just figure if I throw my cash at these sorts of ports it'll help oil the gears of the "remastering classics for PC" machine so to speak.

You know that a ton of these are just one guy? He made an engine and then ports the assets to it. He made Doom 64 EX, the strife port, and a few others. I have no idea how the mechanics of it works, whether he gets contracted out or what. He just seems to start working on a game, and then works out the legal stuff later. He did Powerslave port but that got taken down.

You think he can add invert mouse to System Shock Enhanced?

>> No.2894265

I bought the Jedi Knight bundle, but was a bit underwhelmed, Dark Forces is just a shitty DOSBOX wrap that runs like ass on my comp.

They're basically all available on kat.cr anyways, I can vouch for the GOG installs of Jedi Knight 1 -3 .

My favorite play-wise is Jedi Knight 1, and it's still technically /vr/. It's a bit finicky though, I have to run it in a window. I usually just change the background to solid black and hide the taskbar, but Win 7 still has those annoying window borders. I actually like it better ran through WINE on linux.

Jedi Knight II is pretty solid, pretty sure it's out of /vr/ by a couple years, looks a bit more polished. Less retro charm, they fagged up Kyle a little bit but not too much.

Jedi Knight III has good gameplay but they fagged him up way too much. Kind of same deal as modern Zeldas where they went from badass -> cuck transformation in voice acting, facial aesthetics etc.

You could just add games to your steam library though

>> No.2894280

>>2894262

Don't think he did System Shock Enhanced. I think that's just the original game + fan mods (tehcnically not legal but whatevs).

Night Drive Studios is the publisher of all of these.

Samuel Villarreal is the name of the dev I think.

I busted out the flight stick and picked up a game I've been wanting for a long time. Why is TIE Fighter such an amazing game?

>> No.2895080

Dumb fuck. You should have gotten it on GoG that comes with the CD-Rom Collector's Edition. You're playing an inferior version.

What flightstick tho?

>>2894280
I know he didn't mess with SSE. I'm just disappointed that Night Dive could do something simple as adding invert mouse to a 20 year-old game (wish I known it didn't have it). But like you said it's just System Shock Portable.

>> No.2897158

They didn't even try with the Steam release of JK. Totally half-assed. GOG repackage is definitely superior.
