How different reading books is from watching movies/series/animu? Both are being used for entertainment, with a bit of wisdom to share here and there. Extend it to vidya and all there is in common is entertainment, with bits copied from each other.

It is interesting initially, but this gets old quickly, with /lit/fags subtly bragging about how reading makes you cult and other arbitrary terms, but seems to refuse to acknowledge that their interest is in philosophy (in other cases it is just to show off, with a minority that acknowledges that they are just killing time).

He also thinks there's a video game about everything in the world like for example he's really been into swimming for the first time this summer and just today he /asked me for a swimming game. >I wont have the attention span to finish the first boss
Let me be bold and say you don't have the motivation to finish it. The game just gave you no incentive, no reason to do it. Because modern games are absolutely terrible in that regard. They play back whatever narrative they're on to and don't give a damn about the player. Worse even, they'll interrupt the most crucial face of exposition with endless tutorials, suffocating any spark of interest right away. Meanwhile old games give an exposition to entice the player, and from there on keep them glued to the screen, and will let the player make mistakes, learn and improve. The player does not feel strung along by the game, but like they're actually achieving something. You showed with your snes rpg example that attention span is not the problem, the game is.

Why are people so crazy about retro consoles all of a sudden? I got my N64 with cables, a controller, SM64 and Wave Race 64 for only 20$ back when I was 12 at a garage sale. Got a PSX PSOne model with cables and two Dualshock controllers for $10 too at a garage sale also around that time.

I remember selling them at one of MIT's monthly flea markets four years ago for 50$ each w/ controllers when the craze started, bought a overheating Radeon 4850 at the same flea market for 40$, and took the thing apart as soon as I got home to clean the heatsink out with canned air, and put new thermal paste on the GPU die itself. Thing went from running at 90C to like 50C under load.

16 year old me was pretty fucking stoked to have a PC capable of doing serious gaming. Build was an Athlon II X4 645 + the Radeon 4850 1GB, 4GB of RAM and a good 1TB HDD. For 2012, that was the dream budget build for me.

From that day forth, I realized that emulating games was the way to go if you only care about the gameplay.

>Why are people so crazy about retro consoles all of a sudden?
they aren't. The internet allows you to reach a much wider audience. On a flea market you show your goods to a couple hundred people, and have to set your price accordingly. On the internet, a couple thousand or more can see it. Someone among them, only takes one, will be willing to pay more, so you can set your price accordingly. So, it's not more people interested in these old consoles, it's just that the same crowd that has always been interested in them, is more visible.

Regardless, people are understanding that games are games, independent of their age. So they'll want to play games from 1995 just as much as they want to play games from 2015. Only, the hardware for the former is not in production, making it a bit harder to come by, resulting in higher prices

just saying, I never got that "point" because if one isn't considering selling their stuff, why even wonder about the "value"?

Well, if it's worth 500€ with a box and 100€ without, I would consider selling it and getting the same console back for 100€. Makes sense.

Basically if somebody does not like something about you that means you're from Reddit.

It's stupid.
