There's only one Animal Crossing game that's retro and it's not called Animal Crossing, but Animal Forest (Dobutsu no Mori).

But I liked New Leaf and the Gamecube one a lot.

Well, in Japan the series is called Doubutsu no Mori, right? Animal Crossing is just the western name.
And the GC version is an expanded port of the N64 game.

I only played the GC game, and I liked it. The music is really nice.

I also really like how it had a bunch of retro games on the disk, like Punch-Out and Excitebike, all free fo charge as long as you had the passwords.

Exactly, we all only played the GC game and it was more than just a port. You can make an Animal Forest thread but they typically die because no one here has played it, there isn't even a good translation patch.

I couldn't get Punch-Out because I think that one only obtainable with a GBA (or a game genie), but yeah it has a pretty good collection of NES classics, and Wario's Woods.
