Xbox is already retro. Halo 1 would fall nicely into retro style of graphics.

Nothing wrong with Halo any way. It was designed for the console and it plays well as a console FPS.

The quality leap of Halo 2 over Halo 1 is just staggering. A lot of series are like that to be sure, where the second game defines what the first one was going for, but Halo 2 added so many necessary mechanics and scenarios it was an amazing improvement.
