How do the MM7/8 demakes hold up?

>> No.4087519

MUCH, MUUUUUCH superior to the originals, doesn't even compare.

>> No.4087530

butchered music

>> No.4087531

Wasn't a huge fan of the MM8 demake, but I didn't like MM8 to begin with.

>> No.4087538

I find them disappointing because they aren't actual NES roms and thus aren't subject to NES limitations. It would have been interesting to see them as roms.

>> No.4087554

>>4087538

They aren't legit NES roms? I thought that was the entire point of making them 8 bit.

>> No.4087589

All I want is a MM 1-6 + 8-10 at same MM7 style.

Sure, if you want all the games to be as slow and cumbersome as 7.

Junk Man? I think you mean HUNK Man. Yowza.

>> No.4088307

The best thing about them are the boss fights. Most feel better than in the original.

Otherwise they're good but I like the original games better.

For one thing, one of the best things about 7 and 8 are their graphical style.

Then, they're missing quite a bit of content, like entire parts of stages, or the small intro/mid stages.

The difference of scale doesn't even make MM7 stages better, because they kept the original enemy placement and design, made around the big scale. As a result some stages like Shade Man become a joke in the demake version.

One thing that pisses me off is how sometimes the tiles in the backgrounds don't fit together. That just seems lazy, the only times I can remember something like that from the originals is in Skull Man stage and it's nowhere near as bad.

They are windows games, but there is little that I think would be impossible on real system.

>> No.4088654

Theyre ok but i prefer the originals.

I have never understood the hatred for Mega Man 8. It has a wonderful graphical style with lots of love put in it. Sure its gameplay might do the trendy thing at the time and mix it up with spaceship shooting/jumpnslide parts but thats what all platforners were doing back then and those parts are nice anyway.

Its not my favorite but id kill for Capcom to make a mega man game with graphics similar to it. Just remake Mega Man 2 or something.

I really like 8, double jumping with the ball is fun, the only downsides are some very easy bosses, not being able to select all 8 stages from the start and megaman being able to swim is awkward

>double jumping with the ball

Shit, I never knew this, what else you got? This being said I only played the game 4 times.

and I just learnt that you can aim the ball if you press up too.

I just replayed the game yesterday, but I used the Japanese Saturn version. Turns out it has some slightly different enemy placement compared to the other versions, mostly more enemies in places.

Pic related, I played the NTSC-U Saturn and PS1 versions and I swear this guy wasn't here in them. Also Wily Stage 1 had many more enemies as another example.

also no gay voices was a good thing

and by not knowing about the mega ball double jump, I meant not realizing you could fire one in mid air to perform a double jump. Of course I knew you could jump on it.

Yeah those are definitely the only criticisms I have myself. It's a fun game. I wouldn't call it a "must-play" but the hatred for it is unfounded in my humble opinion, especially when you consider just how terrible games like Mega Man X7 and Mega Man Soccer are.

I really think if the Mega Man fanbase wasn't so whiny, and actually bought Mega Man 8, we'd have still gotten 2D Mega Man games on console well into 6th gen.

>>4088747

Yeah the Saturn version is a solid version, arguably better but honestly doesn't really matter because they're similar and the Saturn content isn't significant. It's great that Woodman and Cutman are in, but they're pathetic boss fights and feel tacked on. The music for Tenguman's stage isn't even that much better but is frequently cited as being a reason to play the Saturn version over PS1.

>>4088749

I won't deny that my first thought was "wait really, this guy didn't know you could jump on the ball?".

As far as other unique tricks goes, I got nothing. That other anon might have more. I always wanted Duo's nemesis to appear in another game but it just never happened. People hated Mega Man 8 for whatever reason and Capcom did what Capcom does best: give up.

If you want more of this Duo design, you should read the Ariga mangas Mega Man Gigamix Vol2 and 3. He appears in this pic related version as the villain, the pre-destroyed one, before becoming Duo.

Not him, but I liked MM&B. Stages felt nice, the music was pretty memorable, and the GBA version's was as well. The endgame boss where you had to jump on platforms was a bit annoying, though.

MM8 is one of the first PSX games I owned and probably my 2nd favorite 2D game on the system

Didnt care for 7 on snes when compared to the X games, it felt kind of stiff so I am open to playing the Demakes

I really love seeing threads about MM8 its the best one REEEEEEEEEEEEE

Duo was such a useless addition though, they could have used those anime videos to flesh out already existing characters more instead of space guy who goes away at the end of the game and is never seen again.

snowboard sections become really easy if you figure out the amount of time you have to wait between the JUMP voice clip playing and you pressing the button. The amount of time is always the same, if you get the timing right you can beat the sections without looking at the screen.

Somehow i missed this post. I really like the game. Fantastic, but wished it was a Playstation/saturn game instead and as a protoman fan i hate how the game opens up by chopping him in half. That is a nitpick though.

I love Rockman & Forte. it's very different from other classic MM games, it's got a completely different atmosphere, and a completely different way of designing enemies/level design.

The challenge the game provides is also great even though there are a couple of bullshit moments.

I think it's great as a SNES game. For one thing, it came out in 1998 so they really made the most of the SNES.

Also it seems the reason why the game even exists is that MM8 didn't sold so well on PS1/Saturn, so they wanted to make an equivalent on SNES, where the best sellers was. It seems that most of the bosses, if not all, come from the postcard submissions made for 8. I mean, in 8 they show some of those unused submissions and you can see Pirate Man and Magic Man for instance.

You can kind of say the same thing about a lot of MegaMan characters. Most games have some new character that's only unique to that game, like Dr. Cossack, or most of the non-Sigma villains in MegaMan X. Also, you can tell they were making a push for Duo to be a main character in all the PS1-era Classic MegaMan games.
