Top Gear 2. Keyword, underrated. It's definitely a flawed game, but it's absolutely fun at the lower levels. Once your get towards the end of the game it's a tedious twitchfest.

I guess I'll go with Yoshi Story, people give that game too much shit for being short and easy, but it's only short and easy if you don't try to unlock all the levels, and you don't hunt for all 30 melons in every level instead of eating the first 30 fruit you see.

Sound and Art direction and character designs are pretty shit though, but I still enjoy the game despite that.

If you're concerned about cost but still want a few actual games, you could always go the route of buying Moon games. N64 is such a wasteland of text-heavy games that you'd be unlikely to really miss a whole lot in the process.

I might buy a few actual games of personal favorites, luckily it seems most of my peresonal faves aren't too insanely priced.

But I think I still want to pick up an everdrive. I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons about getting v.3 or saving 80 bucks and getting v.2 ...The biggeset loss really is just pokemon stadium 2. I've got friends who'd love to play the mini games, and the idea of buying a gen 2 game to play with it sounds fun. The gameboy tower has speed up, so I could power level if I wanted.

Classic options: Smash, Mario Kart 64.
Underrated options: Turok Rage Wars, The New Tetris, NBA Showtime On NBC, Xena Warrior Princess.

Underrated game: Bomberman the 2nd attack, World Driver Championship and The Tarzan Game.

Overrated: Maybe Majoras Mask, I love it but it feels like ocarina with a gun shot in your head threathing you. It doesn't take the crown from ocarina because some retarded mechanics.

Latest purchase: A flashcart years ago. I didn't bought anything for the system since then. I really want 4 brawlers to play with friends but it is a bit expensive.

I just played through the re-release. I hope you were able to get that shit, people were legit playing this game online for a few weeks and the multiplayer was as batshit crazy as I remember it. Fast paced, one chucklefuck playing a raptor, one asshole just running for the cerebral bore all the time, rocket launcher and grenade spam everywhere- that shit fucking shakes the screen and the gratuitous particle effects make it hard to even tell whats going on. Then portals, lava pits, boost pads and ladders, it plays like doom or quake on crack and with no sense of shame. Ill have to install it later to see if its dead or not.

My preferred weapon of choice of course, is the FIRESTORM CANNON.

Stadium 2 actually works on a ED64 prior to 3.0, but with minor graphical glitches. The only thing that doesn't work is the tiny portraits of Pokemon are glitched in the battle screen. This is a screenshot of PJ64, but just imagine instead of the portraits, the entire thing is static, this shows up basically any time a still image of a 3D model would be shown, so it also happens in Oak's lab, but only during the trade screen and the Pokedex display. It actually glitches in the same way that PJ64 2.3 does, so it looks odd as fuck, but it's definitely still playable.

t. Someone with a 2.0 who has had one for years and still doesn't see any reason to upgrade.

Here's an actual picture of how it works. Nidoking should be appearing in the small box underneath his name, but he doesn't. But if selected, he'll still appear in the top next to Growlithe and Alakazam. it also does this in the Oak's Lab section, in the larger boxes that should also show the 3D models. In actual battles, it shows them normally. The animated Pichu in the Oak's Lab PC also doesn't appear, but the static one in the Pokedex does.

It's 100% playable this way if you don't mind this one minor glitch.

I did. The game itself could have been better, it's designed as a series of mazes that don't vary a lot in design, but the combat makes the game worthwhile.
It also includes a VS mode and you can use your customized characters. Good stuff.

I've been doing research on this the past week. You can repair them, there are basically three parts that wear out: two gears and a bowl that holds the joystick. If the gears wear out the stick becomes wobbly and loses sensitivity, eventually making it impossible to make your character run in games for example. The bowl gets ground up by the bottom of the joystick, this makes the joystick sink a little bit. You can find replacement parts online, it seems that the first priority is to replace the gears. It can be hard to find replacements for the bowl. If you choose to replace the worn parts it's a good idea to add some grease on them.

one game I never hear mentioned that I think is decent (though much easier than I remember) is Tom and Jerry Fists of Furry.
Also, I think the Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball games are underrated as hell, they were really solid baseball games that were fun to play.
My overrated choice would be Majora's Mask, but to be honest I just don't like it because I feel that the focus on masks and on characters takes too much away from exploring and dungeon crawling. The whole game feels like a sidequest to me. Doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, though "best zelda ever" is going too far.

An undoubtedly overrated game is Mario Kart 64, it's probably the worst game in the series (next to 7 and maybe Wii for me), because of its driving being too simple, its tracks being needlessly long and boring, the items being simultaneously too effective and too impotent, and for how broken the tracks are (way too many skips and too much based around good item luck). Even in a series known for more casual randomness and less for deterministic outcomes, it's still too heavy on luck and not enough on skill. I maintain that it only gets played for nostalgia, and the only reasons people don't rate it lower are 1) nostalgia and 2) they hate on super Mario kart and on super circuit, but only because they don't understand how to play them. /rant

Last purchase was more controllers. Also, yesterday I found the original lever they packed in with the expansion pak, the one you were supposed to use to remove the jumper pak. Haven't seen it in nearly 20 years now.

I have played SMK and SC and I don't have problems with the controls at all, but I still would rank them under MK64, 64 still has great controls & physics.
And MK64's item balance isn't that crazy in comparison to later games, and skill is still a huge factor in the game (getting constant miniturbos and getting some jumps for shortcuts is more reliable than just hoping for a lightning bolt or blue shell), also what's with this "long, boring tracks" complain I've seen lately? MK64's track lenght is fine, Rainbow Road being so long adds to the Multiplayer tension imo.
If there's something bad about MK64 is the lacking SP content, the rubberbanding and, like you said, some broken-ass skips (but at least for time trials, there no Skips records/runs).
MKDS is still the best anyway

Just getting into n64 now, when it was new I'd shit all over it mainly due to being a Sega fan boy. But getting back to it now it had some fucking amazing games. Jet Force Gemini for example is amazing and would have left a huge impact on me if I played it back in the day.

Controls on MK64 are insanely good due to the N64's stick letting you do very precise turns. The mini-turbo mechanic works great, I don't see how it's simpler than any of the other kart games.

For MK64, if you're not playing battle, you only need 3 tracks: Mario, Luigi and Royal raceways, those are short and actually resemble go-kart circuits, as opposed to the more "adventurous" tracks like Yoshi's valley or DK's, which is what many other kart racers went for.
The 3 raceway tracks on MK64 are still the best, at least if you want to play competitive.
