Meaning like how the early MK games the ai later on would read your button inputs making the game a lot harder.

Smash TV-a game that whose designers initially made it impossible to beat without dying, or more to the point, unfair so it took more quarters, but were pressured by good players to "complete" the game. It's a long story, but fascinating. I think "Midway Arcade Treasures" covered it in the bonus videos. I think it's a small miracle that they put extra lives in the arcade game and they said they almost didn't.

Every arcade game was designed to take your quarters.

Killer Instinct. Especially the first one because the game will give the ai opponents an unfair damage buff advantage. That's probably just on extra hard difficulty since I don't play below that, but it is funny watching attract mode Thunder vs Spinal and seeing one of them lost one life bar in less that 5 seconds.

Literally every fighting game. MK2 and SFA3 are notorious for being quarter eaters.

There was this "Punisher" game that I was addicted to. I used to play it at a bowling alley when I was like 8 or something. I did a tiny bit of research on it but turned up something else. It was fun as fuck and I don't know if it had an official title.

There was also some craziness with the "Pleasure Dome." You were repeatedly told about some secret bonus room that you had to reach to "complete" the game. And that you needed 10 keys or something to reach it. So players would keep pumping in coins trying to farm random dropped keys and not dying to trigger this bonus room.
Didn't exist though.
Some of the ports actually added it in just to make the game seem finished.

Arcade games were designed around the CASH BOX. That was the business model.

SFA3 is easy as shit. Just whiff light jabs at bison, he will either teleport and drop kick or do a swipe. Punish accordingly.

Some arcade games were finished too, but I never tried to find the pleasure dome in an arcade, just at home. At the arcade I'd typically dump around 5-10 dollars on it and get nowhere. I wasn't as good back then, but that game is so fixed to kill the player, even more than other games. Smash TV is fun, but it's a fun rip-off.

Quick Google search says pleasure dome was eventually added to the arcade game... Total Carnage has an ending glitch that supposedly wasn't caught till 2000+

Not them, but if everyone is going to have that attitude, then there's no reason for this board or to talk to others at all. Sure, there's a time to tell someone that, but come on.

Literally this.

They are designed to take your quarters. If you play for a while you are not feeding it quarters and you are also keeping others from feeding it quarters, thus the challenge of the 1cc.

Business revolves around getting paid.

Every arcade game, but this was a good thing for game design. This environment lead to the best games: you had to pander to the operators, so the game had to be brief, challenging and demand memorization. But it also had to be fair and fun so people wanted to go back to it.
The result is the most replayable games ever that don't waste your time.

US release of Haunted Castle is fucking rigged. The damage taken from enemies is way too fucking high. The Japanese game is much more reasonable, they just cranked the US version up to make money.

you are, use jump+down punch to nullify enemies stun style then attack also use your memory on where things spawn, that andore always charges so either pre emptive jump kick into him, trigger him then walk out the way, jump stun as i said, superjoy etcetc theres lot of ways, you can even stick to the bottom and reverse jump spam right past until he despawns.

before you ask stage 4 the flames never move north or south at all from stage start and after the first flame wave none can hit you along you stay on that plane.

All AI in fighting games reads your inputs and cheats on move timing. It's the only way to make them semi challenging against human players.

when did this meme start that arcade games weren't designed to take your money?
