Those prices are only there because of the incestual relationship between different collectors buying those then trying to sell it for more than they paid for as some sort of babbie's first investment. To me they're a form of art and more than just the sake of playing them to pass by time. I value the hard work that these teams of developers, writers, and designers of that gen put into these classics. Plus I'm nostalgic as fuck.

Look dude, I prefer emulation for a lot of games and a lot of reasons but it's no coincidence that well emulated systems like the SNES and Playstation got more expensive to collect after the games on it became more playable on any modern appliance. Everyone and their mother knows about both the most sought after games (both popular and 'hidden gem' like) on them and sellers know there's demand so you would be crazy not to use the opportunity not to make some money. Yeah call me a jew, a neck-beard collector, a false-flagging hardware collector, whatever makes some of you kids feel better about yourself but it's not gonna change anything about the current reality of it.

I flip shit on Ebay as a side hustle to pay for my modest PS1 games. Rarely do I ever come across anything rare, and I'm hitting everything from, flee markets, thrifts, salvos, you name it. The average game these days is nearly $100 after you account for DLC $60, if you own a switch. I grew up playing the ps1 greatest hits and never got around to the other greats. So now I just use my ebay money to pay for my ps1 collection. I actually just now purchased Grandia because it's one I missed out on growing up, and by coincidence, it's getting the HD treatment. I had to pull the trigger now while it's relatively low at $50 in amazing condition. I can see it going over that after the switch release.
