How many disks do you believe you should have? I can pick a class after entering the name and all. Only problem was that I had to dial down the CPU.

By knowing where to access archives of old Japanese PC titles I may be able to find a good copy of the game for the OP. Thats not a crazy notion anon.

Downloaded it and got it running, can confirm that they're good pc98 disks.

Use the ones in the "T&E Soft/Hydlide 3 Special Version/Hydlide 3 Special Version [FD hd5].zip" archive

You NEED to mount the game disk in FFD1 and the user disk in FFD2. Works fine, screen shot related.

Maybe you should point out that the message in the op is referring to creating a new user disk from a blank, not inserting a mystic third disk necessary to play the game.

There is no third disk, the user disk is a reformatted one that comes with the game, the game it self is only 1 disk.
I fucking showed you a screenshot of myself playing it even.

The only "third disk" is a bonus content one with the special edition of the game with OKAME content.

To further go in to this, here is the character creation screen even.

The OP may be doing what >>5374476 mentioned in that the CPU speed is too high since Hydlide 3 seems to want to operate on a base level PC98 which is 8086 5 MHz.
The disk images I linked WORK FINE, anything beyond that is user error in setting up the emulator.

Thanks for sating my retardation guys. It just through me off a bit because the cutscenes played fine and unlike with pc88 emulation, the music speed doesn't sound too off if it plays too fast. I was playing at 15Mhz
