Ultimate weeb console and I'm not being insulting.
Its JRPGs are NEVER EVER receiving fan translations because they use unsubtitled voiced audio tracks for dialogue and the way the cutscenes are coded make use of every last bit of ram meaning its near impossible to add English subtitles.

There are a lot of shmups though there is a lot of different genres.

I remember being absolutely blown away by bonk when my friend rented a tg16 in the NES heyday.

For someone who appreciates retro for retro it's almost a must have console. It wasn't as popular here and didn't have popular mascots like its contemporaries but it's a fine system.

There actually is, but it can be dependent on the base console. Some are less noisy than others.
My white PCE had video noise on a PVM and higher line count consumer CRT when using RGB. I'm guessing composite would blur the results enough that you might not notice the video problems. The audio definitely had a hum to it on quiet menus and places without music in game. I did the FURGB and the FBX audio amp and it significantly improved the video and audio output.

Terraonion actually went back on their word regarding them not doing another hardware revision.
After selling their remaining v2 stock they have now started selling a new v3 with tweaked versions of FBX's audio and Voultars RGB circuitry that they've developed in collaboration.
Kind of a bummer but at least it's fixed now. I have already gotten FBX's audio bypass since the overblowing audio was kind of shitty anyways.
The RGB output I can pretty much live with. Dunno if it's something to do with my console but even on an LCD interference is only barely visible in darker colored areas and is indeed completely unnoticeable on my CRT

>> No.5378001

>>5377814
After the first revision the video output isn't that bad. Noisier than it should be, yes, but if you don't feel like doing the bypass it's still acceptable. The sound problems were inexcusable though. Swapped L/R CD audio channels? I mean really?

Yeah, at least they're (finally) fixing it, but what a shitshow this has been.

>> No.5378062

>> No.5378102

>>5378001
Honestly the swapped channels are a minor problem compared to the clipping audio.
The adjustment option for the cd volume was really only a bandaid since it still wouldn't fully prevent clipping and it ruined volume balance with the normal pce audio.
The swapped channels they actually fixed in software by the way. The latest firmware fixes it.
The clipping is sadly based on the hardware and can't really be fixed without replacing the audio circuitry itself.

Yea, you got a point. Download is just the first one that came to mind because that's the first game I got for my PC Engine.

well according to the torrent posted in this thread, you're looking at 240gb for the CD games, then you'd need to add the hucard games but those are a lot smaller

>PC Engine/TG16 was by far the best. Its library was fucking fantastic

i'm a pc engine fan but you have to be delusional. it had the smallest library, least 3rd party support and a glut of shooters and digital comics

it shit you not when i say the system has over 30 quiz games on it

>>5381114
>but Japanese MegaDrive has a better shmup selection.

but you're wrong too. How does it feel to have a console with zero shooters by Konami, Irem or Capcom? Half of your good shit is by Toaplan

Emulates well with Mednafen and Magic Engine. Lots of fun games. It is like the NeoGeo of the 8-bit era. If you want to use real hardware, I would highly advise all the capacitors get replaced and worth looking into mods.

Games are officially distributed in either HuCard (TurboChiip in US) or CD-ROM format. Hu-cards are region locked, and about 5 are SuperGrafx only but otherwise all Hu-cards play in systems of the correct region. CD-ROM games require system (Hu) cards where the newer cards are backwards compatible with the older less memory system cards (some rare exceptions) in descending order from most newest/memory to least: Arcade CD, Super CD, and (regular) CD-ROM. Systems like the Duo systems and SuperCD-ROM addon already have the Super CD-ROM system card built in and only require an Arcade Card to play Arcade CD-ROM level games.

Succeeded by the PC-FX system which is not backwards compatible and stands on its own.

Ever notice the “layers” never overlap? And if they do it’s just a tiny 8x8 thing like the top of a building or a tip of a mountain? And even then it’s usually when there’s little or no enemy sprites on screen.

By that logic the NES can do scrolling layers too because of Metal Storm or Batman. Maybe the Genesis has “Mode 7” because you saw a scaling skull in Splatterhouse 3?

It was! But the Japanese market at the time seemed to have an appetite for things like this. Right in the middle and slightly after the “bubble economy”. Look at the X68000 and FM Towns. Crazy times that will never come again!

The "layers" never over overlap because there are no layers. Those bits you think do don't. You just don't understand what's happening.

By your logic anything that no one ever said is true because of some ridiculous shit you pulled out of your ass. It must suck to be so butt blasted you have to resort to childlogic.
