As an American, we just called it "Sega", because "Genesis" is Sunday school shit and sounds too much like old women named Janice. We were also entirely unaware at the time Master System existed. I only learned about it in the 00s, and then found an emulator and played Phantasy Star after reading in EGM about it's "mind-blowing" 3D graphics for the time. It was just the tunnel animations.
