I haven't bothered to play this since I was a kid but this was my favorite action adventure by a mile.
-full map of Britannia
-can fire cannons
-can buy a boat and go sailing
-can summon monsters and make them fight each other
-puzzles are all end game zelda difficulty x3 and generally a huge pain in the ass
-can even bake bread, proving once and for all that it's a true rpg

Overworld has you exploring towns and forrests and caves, doing a lot of platform-based puzzle-solving using youe transformation abilities. Combat is automatic and gear/health management based rather than reflex based. Dialogue is wonderful and some conversations have very detailed animated sprite portraits that are great to look at. Love the music, too.
