2 and 3 were shit. Backtracking in a fucking platformer is unacceptable. It's different with games like Simon's Quest or Metroid. I couldn't force myself to finish them. The first one was so much fun so it hurt more when the others were garbage.

It's the weakest entry in a trilogy of some of the greatest 2D platformers of all time. Just because it's the weakest doesn't mean it's bad. It's still a top tier platformer.

Its my favorite of the 3, mostly by virtue of being the one I played the most as a kid.

Aside from that however, the Overworld map was easily the best out of the three. Exploring new parts of the map as you unlocked better boats, searching for hidden Banana Bird caves, and fucking around with all the Bear shopkeepers was a very fun diversion from the actual level progression.

And while the other entries in the series had mostly better music, I stand by this being one of the best songs in the trilogy.

It's not. If anything it's the best of the three. People just shit on it for two reasons:

This game is the peak of what Rare tried to achieve with DKC 1 and 2 in terms of gameplay and collecting, has the most varied levels and the most shit to collect.
