Hey /vr/ I was thinking of getting into the Star Ocean series and this recently came out on the switch. How is it as a remake? Is it any good?

It's a good port of the PSP remake. It's also the worst game in the series, including non-/vr/ entries.

Oh I'm assuming it's the worst because the sequels expand on it? So there's nothing wrong with the PSP remake? I know sometimes remakes aren't that good

The PSP remake is good. It's really only a matter of whether you like the SFamicom graphic style more or not. This new version also has updated character portraits which are far better than the moe blob shit on PSP. But yes, SO1 is bare bones in every way compared to its successors (besides the skill system). Exploration, characterization, story, combat are all poor.

I really liked the first Star Ocean on SNES. Thought it was almost as good as Tales of Phantasia

Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean were really pushing the limits of the SNES and they were amazing.
