It is nonetheless a fact that all the great coders who really pushed the C64 hardware were Europeans while American coders seemed to not be aware that you could do anything that wasn't mentioned in the Programmer's Reference Guide.

This game RULES , I was playing 1985 the other day, similar lunar lander style controls, not bad, horrible sound effects, hard. Space Taxi is the best of this genre IMO

You are aware that The Great Giana Sisters was for sale in stores for a short time before Nintendo sued them right?
it was an actual thing that you could buy in stores.

>> No.6219341

>>6219285
There is zero proof that Nintendo ACTUALLY sued anyone over Gianna Sisters, it never went to court. It was voluntarily pulled most likely after a strongly worded letter.

yeah nintendo scared the software house and they voluntarily recalled it but it was too late by then and people had copies. the cracking scene spread it quickly soon after its release.

Has Nintendo's legal department _ever_ figured out how the Internet works? (ok technically pre-Internet but BBSes whatever)

No.

nintendo live in a bubble. also, the trademarks, intellectual property etc. that nintendo have are worth more than the actual software they sell. piracy hasn't always been taken very seriously by nintendo, and that's based on the woeful security measures of practically every console they've ever released, including the switch. yes, i know they've fixed the switch, but it's too fucking late for that. every switch game is now able to be ripped, decrypted and fixed. nintendo were so bad at security that people found an exploit to trick nintendo's servers into giving them every single game they wanted without paying for it.

>>6222793
I'm saying they don't seem to grasp that sending a C&D letter doesn't magically make the offending thing go away, once it's on the Internet it's there forever.

I'd say the NES was rather not bad, in fact to this day no one has entirely figured out that lockout chip--flash carts and repro PCBs copy the Tengen CIC, not the Nintendo one.

>> No.6222842

>>6222808
that's true, it made it difficult but stopped nobody in the end. i was watching some videos about the cic only recently very fascinating. also, from what i can recall, didn't some people just disable the cic stuff on the nes itself by lifting one of the pins?

>> No.6222847

oh my mistake it was for the n64..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwEdqAb2l50
still.. pretty good.

>> No.6222856

The NES CIC was made by Sharp. It had an ID code actually etched onto the chip die and since the die is very small, it's not easy to decap and examine, but the chip was probably closely related to similar devices used in Sharp TV remotes of the period.

Zniggy for Commodore 64 was truly breathtaking. I remember findin' the las' copy in 86', down at radio shack, what a beaut'. It ran like a hot knife thru buttah, graphics crisp and clear, simple and rustic sounds. And what brilliant gameplay!

Very interesting game indeed. But I'm not sure if this was the first game to utilize voice samples - on a system like the C64 that didn't support samples at all.
