Anyone know what the hell is going on with the price boom of retro survival horror games (PlayStation / PlayStation 2)?

>Resident Evil long box 120 dollars
>Silent Hill almost 90 dollars
>Ect

What the fuck is causing this?

>> No.6435941

Resident Evil remakes and Silent Hill rumors have possibly made the games seem more relevant.

>> No.6435947

>>6435931
The remakes you stupid fuck, every time a series gets a smash hit reboot or reimagining the old stuff shoots up in price due to new fans and old ones going back and buying it again

I'm finding that hard to believe, since all of this just happened with in a few months. Check price charting. I mean, Silent Hill is selling for 100 fucking dollars. It's an amazing and a classic, but the jump seems very unnatural. Same with RE Long box. There are countless other examples. It's not some weird isolated case. It can't be because of RE3's remake, right?

Yep, its not uncommon

Maybe, but it's other survival horror games as well.. not just the two you two listed.

>> No.6435954

Well you get these people who never experienced the series or did but it was forever ago, they love it and want to play the old ones, then they want to play anything like the old ones from the period or whatever

I'm not really checking prices all the time but I've searched some stuff yesterday, and it seems video games in general are going up in price.
Maybe the quarantine is making more people shell out for games? I dunno.

>> No.6435961

>>6435956
Yes its that. While I don't know for sure the effect quarantine has had on retro games sales, new game sales are way up (primarily digital downloads) on the consoles and both Microsoft and Sony both announced they had to update and expand their networks for the majorly increased load of users on all day due to quarantine - so I don't see why it also wouldn't translate to retro collectors, probably mostly new to the hobby, having all day to sit online and willing to pay higher prices

Ah, you could be right. I was just so surprseid to see such a drastic jump in prices. It didn't happen with RE2 remake was released. Sure, they got a bump but nothing like this. It's skyrocketed.

>>6435956

That could also be a valid reason. Maybe it's a perfect storm and all of these things are factoring in

For some reason the original Xbox version of Silent Hill 2 is still dirt cheap, but the ps2 versions are skyrocketing in price. Try looking for alternate versions of the retro survival horror games, those seem to be cheaper currently.

>> No.6438587

The good news is that both the PSX and PS2 are really easy to mod so you can just pirate these games instead of paying over 100 dollars for them like a retard

>> No.6438593

>>6435969
It probably is a perfect storm of sorts, both the influence of the remakes AND quarantine. You have to keep in mind a FUCKTON of more people probably actually played through the remakes than did at release, as they actually had time to work on their backlog which probably contributed to the higher numbers of interest and subsequent price jumps

games in general have all skyrocketed in price due to this pandemic from what i'm seeing. i don't know if it's because people are finding more shit in their house and need income, if people are buying them up with their stimulus money becuase they're bored, or both. but it looks to me like almost every game is going up in price now.

Whenever an old series gets in vogue again, zoomers like you start buying them to post photos about it on social media. Plus, games like SH1 or SH3 have always been pricey. I have SH1-4 and all classic REs already and I take joy seeing zooms getting fucked by inflated prices.

Just saw this similar discussion on /v/, it's not just horror games

>I bought SMT Raidou 1 like two months ago for $60 and now its over $100. What the fuck happened?
>>Collector fag here: the price on every older game has gone up significantly since either corona started or when everyone received their $1200 Trump bucks. It's a bad time to start collecting since people on unemployment are sitting around playing vidya and making more money than people working right now. If that does turn out to be the driving force, it will no doubt be temporary, but once it settles down it'll will most likely settle to a price point still a bit higher than pre-spike prices.

Re3make came out recently
Deadly Premonition 2 comes out in July
An official Silent Hill game/successor got teased
Agony showed up again in that Xbox event

Makes sense why there'd be a hike for the genre classics (except Alone in the Dark because younglings don't know what that is)

Once prices go up, they're never coming down. Maybe in 20-30 years.

Limited release quantities for the former (RE1 had 4 different releases on PSX, one being a 2 Disc release and another being available for $5 digitally), and for the latter it's a low amount of quantity mixed with the original 4 SH games commanding some demand.
I'll go over the rest as well
>Resident Evil 2 (N64)
Low amount of copies produced, complete versions are rare because boxes
>Resident Evil Survivor (PC)
Taiwan Exclusive
>Resident Evil CODE:Veronica
Best version not counting the HD Remaster.
>Resident Evil 2, 3 and CVX (GCN)
Sold like shit.
