Beat em ups are my favorite genre hands down. Final Fight is the gold standard in my eyes. But Double Dragon 4 I think is the pinnacle. Given it's on the SNES, it replaces bigger and bigger swarms of enemies to up the difficulty to increasing enemy AI to use the few tools of combat the game has, which also the player gets access to. Save some super moves, enemies and player are on an even playing field. I think this is huge in a genre that developers have used invincible frames and attack priorities to cheap out the player in the name of difficulty. The combat to me is especially fun when you build the rhythm of blocking, attacking, and vying for position to not get surrounded. After so many years, even with the return of a beat em up juggernaut, this one still stands as one of the best beat em ups ever made.

I found it a bit slow first, but is a blast and a very fun game once you get used to it. Some final bosses are tough fuckers tho

Supposedly the development was super-rushed on this one. It's a shame too, because while I agree that it's awesome, with a bit more time in the oven it could've been legendary.

I never realized someone made a “double dragon 4”. I called it that because super/return of is the 4th one to my knowledge.

Why is that so bad? Never played it but the concept seems impossible to screw up.
