So I’ve never really played a FF game before, except Final Fantasy Legends 3 on Gameboy maybe 20ish years ago, but I just started up Final Fantasy 9 And I have a few questions.

Did I fuck up by starting with this one to get me into the series?

Does Zidaine continue to be a main character? He’s annoying as fuck and might be the reason I end up dropping it.

Why did I read it’s one of the best in the series? Is it?

Why do I see everyone sucking Zidaine’s dick in forums when all he does is shit on my boy Steiner, beta orbit or grope the princess, and generally be a boring as fuck character?

Is it The whole story really all about Zidaine because I really might drop the game soon. And I read some shit that it’s not just his story, but you’re forced to play with him in every battle so far and to run around as him too.

Final Fantasy 9 is a return to form and a sort of love letter to earlier entries in the series. It's an odd one to start with. You certainly could, of course.

Zidaine is the main character, yes. All of the side characters have very nice stories as well, however.

If you don't like it don't force yourself to play it.

How far are you into the game?
Yes it's an odd game to start with. Most people's starting points are 4, 6, 7 and games that are on consoles that are off topic according to this board's rules.

The story does get a bit better but unfortunately you will be stuck with zidane for the vast majority of it. However there will be times where you get to just be your boy steiner and he will have his come uppance.

Also, you will probably adopt Vivi as your favorite character towards the end of the game.


I will say this though, if you play through the whole thing and enjoy it, you might be better off turning the game off at the ending cutscene instead of watching it. Don't say I didn't warn you.

don't forget to power level on Grand dragons using lvl 5 death to just insta-kill them.

Depends on what you were looking for. FF9 is a nice mix of pre and post-3D Final Fantasy

Not sure what forum you fucking go to, but no one I know sings Zidane's praises specifically. In fact, no one character stands out above the rest.

It's more that I'm absolutely baffled at anybody disliking him that much. He has great interactions with the rest of the cast, and acts with much more emotion than other FF MCs. Genuinely don't understand what you don't like about him.
