I remember way back in the early 90s I went on a road trip with my family and we stopped at a truck stop. parents gave me a couple quarters to play a video game while we ate lunch there. played a coyote vs roadrunner game that i have never seen before or since.

Promptly lost the game because (iirc) you were supposed to either catch the roadrunner or create traps for it and I sucked at it.

Sega has so many fucking arcade exclusives. It boggles the mind. Three that stick out to me are Jambo Safari, Brave Firefighters, and Outrunners. I think there was also a hospital game they made around the time of Brave Firefighters, but I've never played it. I just know Jambo and especially Brave have a reputation for being pretty rare. The latter apparently breaks down a lot.

Jambo Safari isn't rare. At all. It was common as all hell back in the day and you can still find it pretty easily in older big arcades that still have games sitting around from that era (mainly places like Minigolf, Amusement parks, and bigger casino arcades). Brave Firefighters it was common enough that you can still run into them occasionally, on the off chance there's someone who knows how to maintain them working there.

Emergency Call Ambulance, on the other hand. That one is really fucking rare in the wild. I've been to hundreds of arcades in the past few years and I've only seen it at one arcade in Chicago. I wanna say it was at a place called Safari Land, but there were like three kids' party places with big arcades there that all run together in my mind.

no, just love finding neat obscure stuff and feel i've exhausted my search for hidden gems on the likes of PS1, Saturn, Dreamcast, etc. Arcade is like the wild west though, feels like it'd be nigh-on impossible to find a comprehensive list of all arcade games released in all regions like you more easily can with home consoles. i'm baffled by some of the games i linked there in the first few posts having never got any home port so a lot of neat stuff gets lost to obscurity

Yeah, it was one of Midway's very last arcade games (I think only Arctic Thunder was later). I know Galloping Ghost has a full 6 player setup, but they've been gaining popularity in other "pay 10 bucks at the door" places that specialize in games from that era. I think the machine being so damn popular at Galloping Ghost is the reason.

How do you play 3D arcade games from post 2000? Can you emulate those games?

>> No.6588860

>>6588827
You can. But you need a good machine. Demul emulates most of Sega's more obscure 3D arcade machines with variable results. There are separate emulators for Model 2 and Model 3 games.

Alright, so here's the deal with late 90s/early 00s games. Early 90s games are (usually) simple enough that they're not difficult to emulate. In the mid-late 00s, arcade games switched over to PC-based hardware, that lets them run natively on PCs with a bit of security removal. Now, the era between that is the problem. The games from that period are pretty complex (and late 90s games, in particular, tend to be pretty unorthodox since 3D engines weren't standardized yet).

So basically, if you want to emulate anything from that era, you've just gotta hope someone's put in the legwork to make them work. Some of the more notable boards like the Model 3 have dedicated emulators. Others, like the Naomi and whichever board DDR Supernova ran on, were based on home console hardware so they can be emulated using the already-existing technology built to emulate those console's games. If you wanna play something more obscure whose hardware is uncommon enough that nobody's bothered to get it working for a different game, you're just shit out of luck.

Interesting. I've seen Jambo Safari once at an amusement park, and I've heard of a brave firefighters at a Chuck'e'Cheese of all places (sourcing info from people in my state), but you're right, never heard of the hospital one being easy to find. Also, never seen but one of those two I mentioned, and heard they were about that rare in general. Guess I'll keep an eye out for Jambo more places.

Not that rare maybe, but I'm bummed that the only place that I knew which had outrun 2 super deluxe shut down. I have no idea what happened to that machine. Fucker was problematic for repair but it was amazing to play when it worked.

Likewise, 2 Spicy was so cool. I saw a 2-player setup and played it only once. Real shame, that game was so cool.

The only surviving Outrun2SPDX machine I know of is in Denver, in a high-end bowling alley next door to Coyote Ugly, of all places. It's possible one of the three Gameworks I haven't been to still has one sitting around, but I kind of doubt it.
>2 Spicy
That game might as well have been Gameworks exclusive, given how damn few of them got shipped anywhere else. I know Tilt Studios bought up a bunch of old Gameworks locations and more or less kept the games the same, so you can still find it in a few of those, too. I've heard a few of them have recently surfaced at Round1s, too.
>>6590293
>Got a map of where they are?
Galloping Ghost, Gameworks, Safari Land, and... the fourth escapes my mind at the moment. There were four when I went a year ago, but I can't promise they're all still around. Also be sure to check out Nickle City if you're in the area. It's a tiny, shitty-ass arcade in a strip mall that feels like it crawled out of 2003. They've got a row of shit in the back like Tech Romancer, Megaman The Power Fighters, and WWF Wrestlefest that all look like they've just been sitting there for the last 20 years.
