Never because I didn't play nu-console trash after the fucking PC began to dominate gaming around 2000, and you shouldn't have, either. Yet another reason your trash belongs on /v/ with the rest of the garbage modern gaming.
/vr/ is pre-1995, pre-N64/PS1 only. Retro is not a time, it's a type of game, pre-style over substance garbage to attract non-gamers to shiny crap with bad gameplay.

i can genuinely say after owning 2 ps2 in my life (sold the first, it was in fine condition just didnt want it when ps3 came out) and playing a lot of both i have never in my life seen that red screen or any other errors like this in person.

I'd say the satisfaction of booting a PS1 game was better. The initial BEEEOOOW was """scary""" especially when the very last oOoOoOo note drones on and it hangs there for a second or two, and then suddenly the PS color logo jingle plays and it's like FUCK YEAH

I never had any problem with disk read errors on my PS2. My xbox, on the other hand, developed serious problems with that in the first 6 months. Opening and closing the tray over and over, sometimes 30+ times just to get it to read properly.

This argument will never work.
I do take care of my technology and I saw that red screen on day 1 when I bought my PS2 brand new.

Same here. Played on one for good six years before selling it, and never once saw this. I had that SpongeBob game that kicks you to the PS2 memory card menu at random, so I guess I saw some sort of error, but that's a software error...

my ps2 did that one single time when GTASA pissed me off. I slammed my fist into the ps2 and it bounced into the air. The disc was ruined, but the ps2 was fine. Sold it to a friend and he let it run 24/7 for almost a year playing Gran Turismo and it never had any problems. 39001 btw

I remember having to perform a little trick to get my PS2 to run pirate PS1 games, put the disc in, close the tray, and then hold the power and reset buttons simultaneously for a few seconds, then release, and gently tap them again once.
